It seems from the recent trip reports that there have been a lot of eagle ray sightings lately. Is this a seasonal thing? Particularly randy rays last year having lots of babies? And, most importantly, will they stick around for when we're there in April?

you should still be able to see them in april. i don't know if it's a seasonal thing or not. we've seen them at different times of the year. we have seen one regularly at invisibles in the morning feeding in the sand. we'll still be there at the end of april and hope we are still seeing eagle rays then.

We definitely saw more eagle rays on our 2 week trip 1-5 through 1-19 than we can ever remember in the past. About one every 4th or 5th dive on the west side and seven in one dive from Lac Cai. There was a "squadron" of 4 on the Cai dive in addition to 3 individuals. Unquestionably the best dive of the trip (thanks, Bas!).

Carlea and Jeff, our trip last week, we saw one on all but 2 dives. We dove the house reef a lot, and just like clockwork, they were there. I was told that this is the "feeding" time of the year for them that's why so consistent. They are in the shallows in the sand, above 20F. At least that's where we saw all the one's we did...and they were feeding....

Thanks Boat Chick. That's interesting. So they feed at specific times of year vs. all year long?
