If you are going to be on a boat out of one of the dive shops, there are usually other solo divers on board. The trick is to get one who likes to dive the same way as you do. Deep and fast, shallow and slow, or some combination. Photogs don't usually make good dive buddies for beginers as they are likely to pay more attention to whats in front of the lens than what is happening with their buddy. I know I have been guilty of that at times. I have gone to Bonaire so many times and taken so many pics there that now I take a day or so to shoot a roll and have no prob with watching out for a another diver.
