We have booked a trip to Bonaire flying with Arke Fly for the first time later this year. Does anyone already have experiences they wish to share about flying with Arke Fly? I am curious to know what the difference is with KLM. Thanks in advance.

Hi Maggie, I have only taken KLM so far. But Arke Fly is flying with a Boeing 767 which is smaller than the MD-11 so I guess it takes a little longer to get to Bonaire. Also, all of AF's B-767 are a couple years older than KLM's MDs.

Hi Gwen, thanks for your reply. It's indeed a bit slower, but that's alright. It's flying to Bonaire, that's what's we want!

Maggie, one other thing is Arke Fly does not serve food for free on board, you will have to buy (or bring) your own meal. They are using older planes and have only 4 planes capable of flying across the ocean.

Hi Martin, tx for the info. We're flying business class (only EURO 60,00 more per person than economy class of KLM). That's the only class you get a meal for free (well, for free, we've paid in advance of course). But bad news about these old planes, hope we arrive safely!

Maggie, I'm not sure if this is what you want to hear, but we flew Arkefly (Comfort Class = between business class and economy) and it was horrible. Long delays, bad service, old planes with several (luckily minor) malfunctions, KLM for us next time. Since you read Dutch, go to trosradar.nl, go to the forum and search for Arkefly. Also they just got the "cold shower" award for bad service. But I'm sure you'll survive...

Tony, for the sake of all none-Dutch readers, I'll reply in English. If you search the web and various fora on it, you will notice a lot more complaints about Arkefly, these aren't isolated incidents, not by far. Arkefly has many problems, mostly due to the fact that they only have a few planes and they are very reluctant to lease/rent another plane when something goes wrong. This means that one problem can lead to a multitude of problems, as they ar plugging one hole with another. Also, when you book early, KLM economy is as cheap as Arke, and a lot better and dependable. Arkefly is a bottom feeder, I will never fly it again if I can help it, unless they change their policies, attitude and service drastically. About the meals, everybody is supposed to get a meal on longer flights, but they ran out when we flew in, and quite a few economy passengers had to survive on cookies! The meals were bad and the smallest I have ever seen. Since you fly business class, you'll probably get cheap champagne and fake caviar!

My friend's sister flew Arkefly a month ago. It left here, went to CUR and then to Canada before flying to AMS. She said it was a nightmare. Coming home she came back hours early.

Here is what I observed at the airport in Bonaire: Arkefly brings their food for the way back (Bonaire to Amsterdam) from Amsterdam, they don't use the local catering service. Also, they must have two crews on board since no crew ever leaves the airport. So they the crew flies for like 20 hours even though they are only working half the time- sounds exhausting to me!!!

Hey Tony, I don't live that close to the Netherlands but I thought learning Dutch would help me a little bit in Aruba and Bonaire to read the newspaper and listening to the Dutch! Have to learn some more in the next few weeks before going to Aruba. I really like your language and it's not that hard to learn.

|
By Marianne (New BonaireTalk Poster - Post #2) on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 - 1:47 am: |

Groetjes, M.
