It's either a secretary blenny or a pearl blenny. You will have to take me to the spot where you saw it so I can make a better identification. I'm always available>

My money is on Pearl Blenny. They are almost always found in the top 6" to 1 foot of water, as I understand.

Jerry Ligon would be a good one to check with.

Bruce, what did you ever decide?

I have a fish I can't identify - but I didn't find him on Bonaire (although I have been to Bonaire twice). I saw him in a small bay on St. Lucia. He is about 5" long, and I first saw him chasing an octopus. Found in shallow, inshore, mixed sea grass and rocks. Also seen mating - the mate was a different color. I'm wondering if this is breeding coloration.

I'm providing a link to a photobucket album with 3 pictures.

Thanks,

Sandra,
Looks like a Hairy Blenny in his mating colors. I have found them under the ledges at Tories early in the day in that coloration. I noticed the eel grass in your shot. Where were you?

Nice shots!!

Susan

Thanks, Susan. Someone else also gave me that ID. He is in "the book" but you would never know it from their photos!

We were in a very small bay just south of Marigot Bay on St. Lucia. I was about 20 yards from shore, in mixed grass and rocks when I saw him chasing the octopus. I also found a large sea horse grazing in the eel grass in that area - so it was a quite exciting day for snorkeling! At one point I did see the blenny under a rock - but then he came out and posed for me in 3 feet of water.
