Ellen - I love your bird pics and facts. You should think about doing a featured "bird of the day." What a treat for the rest of us! Masha Danki! I hope I just said thank you, and not some cuss word :-)

Ellen, thanks so much for this info. I love watching birds, but hardly ever know what they are! And so far, I haven't had the patience to become a birder.

Josie, I am sure that I will see you at Benny's. Benny currently has some nesting ground doves. We can lie in his hammocks and watch the birds! Benny's brother just came in from Holland tonight so he is very happy!

Ellen, We are very pleased with your well-earned shots. And, we'll take them whenever they are available. Your shots are so beautiful. I usually catch just a wing or the tail end of the tail, traveling in the other direction. I guess I was kind of hoping you had an archive of shots...wishful thinking!

On another thread, Kerri asked about the dove's "puffy breast". Actually, the white-tipped dove was feeling a bit randy that afternoon and was puffing himself up for a certain female that he had his eye on. I must say that his show was very successful as you can see for yourselves....

Ellen,I'll have to remember to know where you are at all times. Hmmm No candy. No flowers. Do Doves at least mate for life, like swans? Or is this an engagement of more limited duration? (blush)

I think that the Morning Doves do mate for life, as long as they stay out of France where they like to shoot them and put them in a pie type dish.

Must be that these doves mistook some fish roe to be little orange seeds!

Kerri, I don't know if these doves mate for life but we have three regulars in our yard, one male and two females and the male dove seems to pay exclusive attention to only one of the females, completely ignoring the other female. And he certainly isn't the "love em and leave em" type. After the mating episode above, there was a lot of cooing and sweet talk afterwards. This picture was taken just after the one above. A real gentleman!
