Hopefully we got the title right :-)

Here's where you can ask questions about the Dutch language, Bonaire's official language (but Papiamentu being the most common as well as local language - see the other subtopic(s) about that). And hopefully our Dutch regulars will see fit to help us all understand Dutch better!

Jake, you're verry close. The verb schrijven will be schrijven (to write), schreven (wrote), geschreven (writen). But I guess my english is far less than your dutch..

Martin?

Would you be Martin from Buddy's & now Carib Inn? If not, sorry! Just curious as we only know one on the island and we just returned from there June 2nd! Not that everyone posting here lives on Bonaire.....don't we wish :)

We have very much decided to try to learn Dutch and Papiementu since we have frequented the island of Bonaire every year for the past 8 years. About time huh?

Hiya Jake,

Does the name 'van der Moolen' ring any bells?
It should though, my father's living on the island for more than 25 yrs now...
And i'll be visiting him in less than two weeks...
YEAH!!
I haven't been on the island for 10 yrs. A lot has changed since then.
Here's a Dutch sentence for you:

Hopelijk gauw tot ziens!

(Hope to see you soon!)

Sander.

Dag Sander,

Nope. I don't recognize the last name, but then again, I know most people here by first names only :-)

Hopelijk gauw tot ziens!

Dag allemaal.
Hello everyone

Nice to see that there is more attention for Dutch

Dag Debbi, kaas betekend cheese.
Hi Debbi, kaas means cheese.

For our curious us friends: Sander have fun in Bonaire and say hi to your family. It has been a while.(I know Sander from ? 15 years ago ?)

For people whom want to chat more in Dutch, go to the thread under Local Items - Chatten in het Nederlands. See you soon.

:)

Fill out your profile, it is nice to see with whom you are writing.

Please feel free to correct my English!!

(Micheal used to do it all the time when I worked at the TCB)

Henk

Hi all, I just returned from Bonaire and I'm in love. I was just putting together my photo album and wanted to add a a couple of captions. I wanted a vini vidi vici type of caption in Dutch. I was hoping someone could translate "I came, I saw, I fell in love" into Dutch for me.

Thanks in advance, Grawz

Literally;

Ik kwam (I came)pronounce: ick cwam
Ik keek (I saw) pronounce: ick cake
Ik werd verliefd (I fell in love)pronounce: ick wehrt verleeft.

:)

Bon dia allemaal!
