Hi all!,I have a doubt with these papiamentu words "mi" and "ami",as far as I know both of them mean the same but the problem is that I don´t know in which cases is supposed to use mi or ami,so please if some of you know it,explain it to me,I will be really thankful.

Can you provide examples with mi and ami? Is it anything like the Spanish "a mi me gusta...."? In Papiamentu, "mi" is a subject pronoun, and maybe "ami" is an indirect object pronoun? I apologize to anyone I just put to sleep...

I am certainly not an expert on any language but there are a few websites that discuss it. One is here. http://www.papiamentu.com/
and another which is a translator I have used for years. That one is here.http://www.donamaro.nl/papiamentu/. It seems that the language, even today can have a lot of variation from island to island. As you probably know, it has a lot of other influences besides Spanish.

I'm no expert in Papiamentu. But after a year of Papiamentu course work offered by FORMA, a local adult education program, following a year of self study, I will go out on a limb and venture an opinion. Ami is frequently used when you want to put some emphasis on the "I"...as example, if someone says "mi ta gusta Coca Cola", you could reply "Ami ta gusta tambe"...or in comparison "Mi ta bai na Aruba", you answer "ami ta bai na Curacao". So, ami ta duna bo mi "two cents"...for what it's worth.

Thanks all for your answers.Kate,unfortunately I dont remember where I saw a phrase with "Ami",I used to see "Me" which mens "I" in english and "Yo,Mi," in spanish but "Ami" is not that common I guess but it makes sense what you say.

Jim,I think you are right,it seems to me that it is the use for Ami,I dont know why but I feel it is correct,maybe because papiamentu is so similar to spanish I can see some logic in it and I would dare to say that that is the right way to use it,I hope Im not wrong,thank you very much!
