Hi folks, havenīt been around here in a while, but I keep on reading the Bonaire talk comments almost everyday.I was wondering which language, dutch or papiamentu was the most used by bonaireans,I asked you because I was in Curacao and I heard almost everybody speaking in papiamentu so I wanted to know if it was the same in Bonaire.Beforehand thanks for your comments!

The majority of the locals, when speaking to other locals speak Papiamentu. So yes, I would say it would be the same.

beverly, yes, there is a woman who gives lessons. she advertises in the reporter. we talked to her once and she said it takes a long time and her lessons aren't suited to a two week vacation...but maybe you could take a few lessons anyway...it can't hurt.

There is a new guide to papiamentu on sale in Bonaire at Chatn Browze and Sand Dollar Grocery, I bought a copy last week for $10 and it looks really good. I got back to the UK early this morning and will give more details when we unpack.

Yes the books are available and it does not take years to learn Papiamentu although it did take me a while and I am still learning.
