Is it possible to save Reefcam as a Windows Active Desktop item and have it refresh automatically? From the home page, I right-clicked on the small Reefcam image and selected "Set as Desktop Item..." and it placed the image on my desktop. I then set up a schedule to refresh every 5 minutes. Unfortunately, the refresh grabs the same image over and over again.

I noticed in the properties of the desktop item that the url is "http://www.bonairewebcams.com/cgi-bin/showpic.cgi?c=3;s=S;t=20030425155004sGve". This looks to be very specific to one particular image. Is there a link name that refers to the current image? For instance, the "t=" parameter above lists a timestamp. Could you set up a parameter that might look like "t=currentview" or something similar? I'm sure you already have something like this.

Thanks!

Hi James,

Jake would have the answer to that, and he is on vacation until the 28th. Unless someone else who is a tech wizard out there can help, he will be able to answer your question when he returns. It is a great idea though!

This is something Jake and I have talked about in the past. You won't be able to implement this yourself, however we could offer this capability as a service for WebCam paid members. Would this be reasonable?

We've had to purposely make it impossible to automate the fetching of images. Other websites were pulling our images without permission, and displaying and archiving the images.

Dan, thanks for answering (did not mean not to refer to you as well). I think it would be a great addition to the membership:-)

As a paid subscriber, I'd say Yes, I'd love it!

I have made http://www.bonairewebcams.com/TheWorks.php my homepage and set my desktop (W2k) to show webcontent. With my broadband connection it refreshes every 2 minutes... Works great!

I'm looking for a small image like the set-up shown below:

"sample desktop"

Of course, I'd like to see it auto-refresh. I hope it becomes a feature of paid subscriptions.

james, thanks. i hope it says something good! I was coming back from the USC Wrigley Marine Institute Research site on Catalina Island last fall after a 4 day stint there, and the sea was unbelievably calm, and i was feeling a bit spry! LOL! Kind of like queen of the world:-)

Aww, it's always been a dream of mine to fly my own plane out to Catalina Island. Maybe some day...

Martin,

It's possible to display the TheWorks page on active desktop, but you get the ads, and the screen layout as we have it.

What we would offer to members is the ability to see content in the way that James is thinking about.

We're still working on the details of exactly how this will work, but do appreciate the input on how you want to use this capability, as that will help us as we design the solution.

Dan
