Just a word of warning that you may start experiencing slower access to the Web Cams site in the coming days. The server rack from which the Bonaire WebCams site feeds it data has seen its data rate exceed the bandwidth contracted from the colo site the rack is located at. As such, we've had to throttle the data feed on the regular public site at http://www.BonaireWebCams.com.

There is a way around this, however, and that is to be signed on via the Member's version of the WebCams site (no charge, but you need to be a registered WebCams user - that's different from being a registered BonaireTalk user). So, if you keep a window open with the current WebCams images, do so via your BWC membership address (http://my.BonaireWebCams.com - and you must login, otherwise you get bounced to the public site, http://www.BonaireWebCams.com) - that will get you faster live image viewing access.

jake, is it like ours, where if you want more bandwidth you have to pay the sbc (colo site) more money for bandwidth? if so, is there something that we as users can do (ie, smaller picture size posting, gifs, etc) other than membership?

Yes - it is like that (more $$$ = more bandwidth). As far as what you can do, from a practical perspective not much. We just will have to bite the bullet at some point and spend more. Dan's been working on the Bonaire WebCams shopping cart, so revenue from that might help once we launch it... (No date available yet)

Jake, while we got you, what's going on with the UW cam? Is it just lousy visibility or is the cam fogging from the cold water?

jake, maybe you should set up a donation box next to the sign box...even better, make it a "token" box...have to put a token in to get a sign to hold up...or, put a piggy bank on the mooring block for folks to drop quarters in...or maybe...come on folks, brainstorming ideas please:-)

Cynde,

You let the cat out of the bag :-)

Cecil - You didn't notice an improvement when I froze my, uh, body parts, off cleaning the cam this morning?

But yes - the viz in the shallows was very poor - maybe 50 feet, likely due to the cold water...

Cynde,

Anything which involves soliciting extra money without someone providing something extra in return doesn't sit well with me - that's why memberships were okay (we offer extra stuff to members on the BWC site), but a donation box wouldn't be. Might be a minor difference to some, but it's pretty major to me.

JAKE!
I don't want hear anything more from you for a few days about "freezing your, uh, body parts"; we got home around 8pm (CST) last night and woke-up this morning to 10 deg F and large expanse of ice and snow covered lake out our back window.

Yeah, but I bet you were wearing more than a 3mm shorty wet suit at the time! It was good seeing you two here and spending time with y'all!

Actually, I was wearing a lot less; was looking out our bedroom window at the lake; the real nuisance was the boots and coat needed for picking up the newspaper from the driveway. Also, was great being able to do things with you, and family, again. Will shortly need to start planning the BT'er Feb/Mar BBQ for next year!
