The water seems to be getting colder. My dive watch (a Suunto Mosquito) read 75 degrees Fahrenheit at the ReefCam when I did the above cleaning. BRRRRRR!!!!

The water is filled with life this morning - reducing visibility significantly. Probably a side effect of the colder water too. Saw all sorts of cool little jelly-strands - 1 to 4 inches long (non-stinging as best I could tell). Fish were loving it all too - saw lots of Sgt. Majors and surgeon fish in the top part of the water column.

Down at the bottom were schools of very young brown chromis - hundreds, if not thousands, of them. Also saw another unusual thing - a handful of trumpet fish all nose down right above the rubble area, all apparently waiting for easy means - looked like a mini-forest of trumpet fish.

One last thing - caught a look at Slim - he's a yellow nose goby, not a sharknose as we thought. Mildly different species.

Back to my warmer grind out of the water... If you're coming to Bonaire soon, bring extra temperature protection for the water...

Jake

Jake, that means a difference of 1,6 degree F,with the cam temp. so actual it's around 23C for us. That's the average pool temperature here(inside).
Found this mini trumpet fish

I just checked to verify the two sensors underwater are showing matching values, and they are. The new sensors we installed recently are calibrated. The temperature they read will be affected by their position in the water (a bit shallower than the camera itself) and by any solar heating of the probe itself, or surrounding substrate.

The other source of discrepancy would be the differing calibration between the gauge Jake was reading, and the sensors installed on the reef.

The sensors are reading slightly over 25C.

My guess overall is both gauges were correct, and Jake was treated to the cool waters upwelling from the deep. Guess we'll see him in his drysuit next time he cleans the camera!

Good morning, everyone, from the furthest West BTer. I always feel like Johnny-Come-Lately. All the excitement's already over. At this point, all four cams are "empty," except, of course, for the beautiful sunshine.
We have beautiful sunshine in Juneau, also, but its currently (8:20 am) 17f/-8c. Not exactly the same as Bon.
Jake, you've been babied by warm water too long. You need to come to Juneau. I'll reindoctrinate you to cold water diving!

Hello everybody,
