Good Morning all. Just checked in and found some fish activity.

My PBD is back after last night. I found the underwater video I shot on our last trip. It was on a rented camera (thanks to Phototours) and I had forgotten all about it when we got back. I just watched it for the first time. There were two dives - Karl's Hill on Klein and the Hilma Hooker.

Have a great day everybody!

Michael

I see I missed the divers---again. One of these days it will be I peering into that uw camera.
Happy Anniversary, Gerda. I trust you had a great celebration.
Have a good day, all.

Stef, was your new equipment great? I know probably a silly question :-).

Mary Lou-
I will have a hard time doing that. See, I'm jealous of where you live too :-) . Maine, all the lobster you can eat for a lot cheaper that I can get it!! When you're in Bonaire do you eat their lobster! (Lobster Termidor from ZeeZitch is the best!). I'll do my best with the weather thing! Will you be going to Lac Bay?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Mary Lou French (BonaireTalker - Post #50) on Thursday, February 13, 2003 - 3:00 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Angela, You are right about the lobster!! I live about a mile from the ocean and the harbor/waters near me has the sweetest lobsters around. Only thing is, I don't eat lobster!! I like it, but I would rather have haddock. I know I am strange!! It is fun though, to go to the dock, fresh off the boat, cook them right up. We do it when people are here from out of town.
What is going on over at Lac Bay?

Annie, here in the states you can donate 'directed' platelets, so Emma could get your platelets and not have to worry about the source. It takes about two hours to do it, as they run your blood through a filtering machine that takes out the platelets and returns the red blood cells and most of the plasma back to you. You recover your full clotting ability in three to four days, you just have to be careful not to cut yourself or such for a day or two.

Why don't you check with your cancer center and see if you can do that for Emma while she is undergoing her chemo/radiation therapy.

Lac Bay is on Bonaire. Sunday afternoon they have a local/vacationers party. We had a blast! The band was an eight man band. The locals dance. It's really worth the trip. The bar is an open air bar right on the beach.

Hi MaryLou - the new equipment was great, but I'm having a devil of a time with mask fog.. anyone have some hints besides spit, which didn't work!

My new BC is a SeaQuest Diva and it's SOOOO comfortable.. with weight pockets instead of a weight belt.. no more bumping on the hip bones! New regulator worked well, which is how it should work.. Scott's octopus was free breathing, so he had to replace it.. lucky we found out before we got there!

Hey.. send me a lobster, and I'll send you a VA ham :-)

Hey Stef,

Use a non abrasive toothpaste to clean the lens. Rub it with your fingers for a minute or two and rinse well. There are some pretty good defog drops available, but look for one that says it doesn't sting. You should pay about 4 to 6 bucks a bottle.

I learnt a new trick today. Hope it works.

Cool Trick Annie :-)

BC, Bouyancy Compensator; It's the jacket that the divers wear that holds their tanks on and allows them to float neutral, neither floating to the surface nor sinking. A good Bonaire diver is one who is good with their bouyancy. Unlike some of the idiots we saw a couple of weeks ago putting the sign in and crashing onto the coral. :-(

Hope this explains it.

Kevin

Mary Lou-
They also have plenty of food and and drink and live music in two spots. The band plays until the sun goes down (right at the waters edge so you can watch the sun go down from there). I recommend getting the conch while you're there. It's a ton of fun! Who knows, we may see you there! :-)

Stef,
For an effective and cheap mask defog, a lot of divers I know, including myself, use baby shampoo. Some use a 50/50 mix of shampoo and water. I use it straight. I put a small drop on the mask, smear it around and let it dry. A quick rinse and it's ready to go. It's very cheap, smells nice (I have orange scent) and does not burn my eyes. I use an old Visine (eye drop) bottle as a despencer. Be sure to clean your mask with tooth paste, reg old stuff, esp if the mask is new.

Herman

Stef
The best defog that I've found is baby shampoo. It doesn't burn your eyes, it's cheap and it has worked really good for me and kept my lens clear! Put one small drop on each lense, rub it over the whole lense then dip your mask in fresh water or even in the salt water if necessary. Also dish washing liquid works but can burn your eyes.
I've never posted on this chat line before but have been reading it for a long time and find it very interesting.
I've never been to Bonaire but hope to one day.
