Good morning all! "Listening" to everyone talk about Bonaire compared to other dive vacations makes me think I have been spoiled right off the bat! Bonaire was my first trip and it sounds like nothing will compare. Dang- now I'm hesitant to try another place!! :-)

There's other placed to dive, sure. And in some cases the diving is better. BUT! Bonaire is so peaceful, the people are great, the lifestyle is laid back, very low stress, a constant climate, and there's just something special about it. That's why it's the best. Once you visit and dive, you'll always want to go back. :-)

bigger lens, means I won't have to go down the street to your house, I can just wave to everyone from the end of Al's dock. Although I suspect that I will look like an ant. I'll dress brightly!

Bill-
Getting sick of shoveling myself. That and having to barrel over the end of my driveway so the car doesn't get stuck because the snowplows here! I do bottom out, which isn't good but it's too damn cold to be out there long with a shovel!!!

I just about forgot to reconfirm our flights. When I was reviewing some of the literature from Great Southern Adventures, it said that confirmation was *required* at least 48 hours before departure on international flights. Since I had my e-tickets in hand, seats already assigned (except for the San Juan to Bonaire leg), it wasn't a concern of mine. Still, I called American Airlines last night, talked to their computer, and reconfirmed.

While I do think I would have still been able to fly without having done that, I didn't really care to take my chances.

Annie: I walked out to the car this morning and to my surprise there were about 40 Ibis (beautiful white birds 1/3 meter tall) in my front yard feeding on the insects. It's not uncommon, but Claire thinks it means good things are coming. I called her out to show her and she just beamed with joy. I can't help but think the good things are coming to Emma and you too. :-)

Ever have a pasty? (Not to be confused with a pastie). It's meat and potatoes in a pastry. Miners in the area used to wrap their meat and potatoes in it to take down into the mine. They can be quite good. Or a cudighi, which is a type of sandwich. We've got a lot of stuff, none of it gourmet exactly, but good nonetheless! I'd trade you some of that for another wheel of Gouda cheese (took a ten pounder home in my carry on last year!). I might be able to come up with something!

Hi, Kevin! I see that you are from a part of the woods where I grew up as a kid...I used to live on Country Club Circle across from the 18th fairway and the Club House in what was then/still called Fort Lauderdale. (it was later rezoned/renamed Plantation). I loved being a kid down there...so much to do all of the time. Are you near some water to have these beauties come visit you? Ayo. Carole

I'm Latvian by heritage, though, so how about some nice sweetbread? THAT I can do...

Hi Carole,

We live near a historic area called the Long Acres, just north of Broward Blvd and west of the Turnpike. The main road through is Fig Tree Lane, we live on Holly Lane. Yes, we have a canal just across the botanical garden park and another canal near the water treatment plant. They are both within about 100 yards of the house. We see all kinds of birds this time of the year, Osprey, Great Blue Herons, Great White Herons, Green Herons, and an occasional Wood Stork. We love it almost as much as Bonaire.

Kevin - it's a blend of camera costs and supporting equipment cost (cables, server upgrades, etc.)

Angela - Surprise us (if you wish, of course!)

Anita - I tried to get Dave Goodwin to bring down a Chicago deep dish pizza, but he couldn't figure out how to pack it :-) (The wine was great, by the way!)

Kevin, it does not sound as though you are too far from where I was living. I recall Broward Blvd and Hwy 441 as a nearby cross intersection. Parkway Junior High used to be over that way...no? There used to be a "model" home called the "Upsidedown House", too....many, many years ago. That whole area where you are now was open land and marsh area when I was there. I would not recognize it any longer, I fear. It does sound lovely where you are, tho. I get the urge to want to move back down there at times, but.....(we are in very cold and snowy NJ right now)Carole

Bluetang: Thanks, and Jake thanks, that's a great link.

Carole: We're about 2 miles west of 441. I've seen pictures from the late 40's and yes, it was all open land and marsh. You would never recognize it now. We have one of the most heavily landscaped and treescaped areas in the county. It's really nice.

Jake: Claire and I are coming in June, mark you calendar. Let me know if there is anything we can bring from Florida, food, drink, computer parts, or otherwise.
