Folks, I have a few questions about octopuses from those who have seen them close up. First of all, do they have a regular lair, or do they just flit about? Second, when they're not trying to wrestle with lens filters, what's their preferred mode of getting around - swimming or scuttling? And - I seem to recall that they're shy critters?

I love seeing what's under the ocean's surface, but I know very little about it... and no time to Google!

With Octopus it depends on the species. I believe that with these particular critters they are going to stay in one area as long as it remains safe. They will have several places to reside as the forage for food with one or two primary nests. Speaking of nests, once the female does lay eggs she will guard it non stop until they all hatch. And their primary mode of locomotion is to scuttle, if that's what you would call it.

Hi, joost;
Look at the bottom of the pic just to the right of center. Only his head is visible.
Unfortunately, I saved the big one, not the small one, so its not quite as clear.
