So, I wonder who the crazy dude is that took off his mask. Gerda - that's quite an understatement about it hurting your eyes. I can't stand getting a little splash of water when I'm on the surface, I can't even imagine the pain of opening my eyes in salt water.

Good morning (afternoon or evening--pick one) All!
I agree with Annie B., busy days aren't boring. At least they go fast! Like the 13 glorious days we spent in Bonaire. I know you all saw us. We were the ones with the big sign about being warm. I loved the 'cheese melts' comment too. Post-Bonaire Depression has hit hard. I sit and moon over the cam most of the day and spend the rest of the time paging through photos. Sigh. Note to Gerda & Michael: Salt water is the same salinity as tears so what might hurt your eyes is skin oils or sunscreen. Washing your face or even just splashing it with water before putting on your mask helps a lot. Just thought I'd let you know.

Bookie - Not to open up a great scientific debate with you, but I don't buy your assertion that tears have the same salinity as salt water. I've gotten plenty of salt water in my eyes - often while not wearing any kind of sunscreen of skin cream and it hurts like he**.

That's my 2 cents worth anyway. :-)

Hi Annie B. :-) Glad to hear today was a quick one for you. Regards the salt water and mask removal....I would rather have the mask off in the water around Bonaire than in a chlorine filled swimming pool :-(

Bonaire has my vote for no mask diving - but that makes it hard to see all of the wonderful creatures!!

: Bill :-)

Michael,

That's only when you get salt water splashed in your eyes. With your face fully submerged in salt water (warm preferably) and eye open in contact with the salt water, you should find no stinging occurs (it doesn't sting when I do it) because the salinity is the same as tears, more or less.

Jake

Ah Jake.... the voice of logic and experience. O.K. I'll buy the salt water argument - for now. I'm one of those annoyingly stubborn people who has to try something before he believes it. Last time we were down I had issues with a new mask that kept leaking - as I cleared it, there were the inevetible drops that got in my eyes and it just about drove me nuts. I'll try the no-mask technique next time.

And Superturtle (aka Bill) I'll agree with you as well. Better to be in Bonaire than the local YMCA swimming pool anyday! :-)

You know,Michael, my eyes sting when my mask leaks, but I'm pretty sure it's that stuff I use to de-fog. Gotta rinse carefully. I'll be leaving my mask on!!

Michael, I agree with Jake as well, but I do know your pain with the leaking mask.. I attribute it to the no-fog gel I put in it...

My wife and I are going to Bonaire this Monday. We are staying at Capt. Don's,Habitat. I was wondering if any one knew if there is a place to rent a car from close to that. And if there is how much they rent for.

The Puffer PICs are awesome, are those all today? I was at the aquarium store the other day and saw a Puffer (STARS AND STRIPES),he was friendly, I know he was dying to tell me he wanted out of there! When I was in Caymans last summer I saw a huge spiny puffer, he followed me for awhile, and then went on. I have to say todays pics are awesome! Can't wait to be there!
