Hi all,

I was "backing up" the Guest Book we keep at the StreetCam (this involves photocopying the pages :-) ), when I realized that it might be nice for folks to see what others have written there.

After a few false starts, I've gotten all 113 saved pages of the StreetCam Guest Book on-line.

Go to http://www.BonaireWebCams.com (or http://my.BonaireWebCams.com if you are a member) and click on the "Guest Book Archives" link in the menu to see the Guest Book pages.

Please note that in order to be readable, each page is about 120KB in size, so this will take a while on slow connections.

If anyone reading this is really bored and wants to make a list of which page (going by the image#.html file name) starts on which date, I'd be happy to add that info as an index so people can located dated entries in the Guest Book more easily - first volunteer gets a free Bonaire WebCams T-shirt and a credit on the index page of the Guest Book Archives if they so desire (upon completion of the task - the date/page index should be put in a spreadsheet with column A as the starting date of a page in MM/DD/YYYY format and the image#.html file name in column B)). Any volunteers? :-)

Jake

What fun! Thanks, Jake! The copy & scan would be labor intensive!!!

The copying was more labor intensive than the scan (I have an automatic document feeder on my scanner) :-)

And a combination of Photoshop's batch processing, and ULEAD's slide show creation software took care of a lot of the production work.

Jake, great idea. I think I'll write something in a few weeks...

And if no one volenteers, I'll put something in excel. Can I download the files or am I going to do this on-line???

If you could mail me the gifs, I could have a bit of automation into this... :) (I know, lazy...)

Automation? You can do handwriting recognition with your computer? :-)

Take a look at the site first before you commit - if it were simple (instead of time consuming) I would have done it to start with! [grin]

Jake, yes I can. (well at the office...) We have a OCR program that can "read" written things. And I've looked at it. I'm not prommissing it will be fast, but I do have 10 hours in a plane in a few weeks... :)

Okay - if no one has volunteered in the next week or so, ding me via e-mail and I'll e-mail you a ZIP with all the GIFs (although the image names do not directly relate to the HTML file they are referenced in...)

Well, Bill, sounds like you'll be the happy new recipient of a Bonaire WebCams T-shirt before long. E-mail me your preferred shipping address and T-shirt size, and I'll mail it to you from Las Vegas next week.

Thanks!

Bill, Are you a fast typer???? That's quick...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Bill & Cheryl Rathborne on Friday, October 18, 2002 - 8:40 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

Martin,

Hardly any typing involved, luckily, since I'm a two finger typist. Just required viewing each page and typing in the start and end date on the page.

Bill
