Quiet day on this board, it looks beautiful as usual in Bonaire.

The South cam picture posted by Ida this morning has good lighting & shows a new structure just down the beach. Are the neighbors building a pier? Hmmm... the "pole" is gone, I think it may have been either a guide marker or a tool. Jake, can you either tell us what's up, or turn the camera down the beach a bit further for a day? (grin)

Our countdown sheet is finally getting into numbers worth talking about...122 days to go!

martin, we should try to hook up for a "special" event!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Jake Richter - NetTech on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 3:24 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Ginny,

The neighbor (whom we've don't think we've ever met), in their never ceasing attempt to destroy nature for the sake of aesthetics and to prove that man dominates all that he surveys, have built a rock wall on both sides of their beach, right into the tidal/wave zone (where Bonaire National Marine Park) regulations are supposed to prevent any construction without permits.

I suspect they didn't like the idea that people could simply walk along the shore line through "their" beach. Or maybe it was the occasional foray by Grendal or our neighbor's dog onto their beach. Who knows with those people or that person - they are the same ones that dumped three truckloads of sand on the beach (another violation of BNMP rules) and then pickaxed a channel through rubble and growing coral so that they wouldn't have to wear booties to get out into deeper water (my guess).

Sigh. One positive thing about the wall is that their workman can no longer easily wander over to our beach to relieve themselves on our side of the previous wall they constructed...

Also, the property next door is for sale for somewhere between $950K and $1.5M (depending on which realtor you ask), and all without the alleged owners from Holland ever having apparently set foot there...

Jake

Cynde, let's do that. Maybe I'll arrange a party... :) Let's say june 9-th, OK???

Jake, you are not talking about the house on the south side as the one being for sale, are you? I really don't want to tell Angela about it. She might want to buy it... (But not for $ 950K, because there is a lot of repair work on the BMP that needs to be done....)

Jake, I will be a tattle tale: While housesitting I saw your neighbors working on their path in the sea..

:(

And Miss Grendel was over there a few times much to their dismay...YIKES..and once while swimming in the sea with me, Blinkje swam back thru the coral path they "created" and plunked herself on their sandy beach..OH OH..

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Jake Richter - NetTech on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 3:41 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Annie,

I doubt it was the real owners of the place next door who are allegedly Dutch, and supposed to be an older couple. We've seen all sorts of other people staying there though...

Martin - yes, that's the one. We also have new Dutch neighbors to the north, but they really nice folk.

Jake

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Martin de Weger on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 3:48 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

The dutch guys on the north side are the same as the ones that moved in last may, or are there new ones??

Too bad for the price, otherwise you might have had some new dutch neighbord down south...

Cynde, I was thinking the same thing this morning about the Candygram rock...LOL.

(122 days is mid-February; we are hoping for a huge, very snowy winter here in dry, dry Colorado this year and will have 2 weeks in sunny Bonaire to get away from our hoped-for winter)

Sometimes the bigger images are larger than 50KB. It happens - all depends on how compressable they are...

As far as me employing anyone, ain't gonna happen - can't afford it, and I really hate being a manager :-)

Jake
