Good morning evrybody. I know you are still sleeping in USA and Bonaire. It's raining today in Paris, logical, as it was stormy yesterday. I have been reading all the reports regarding the beached whales and I found these interesting following ones. Sorry two are french language but tell about the alarmist sonar use. Perhaps it's better to talk about this matter in a special thread.

If I understood well, it seems theses beachings are all due to a strong underwater noise pollution, and it makes me very sad. Anyway i wish you a nice day.

Good Morning Martine. So much sad news about our oceans. Since the Navy (no matter how much the public will try to stop this) will never completely stop using sonar, I was wondering if perhaps navel forces could restrict sonar use in sensitive areas?
I hope you have a nice day as well. Eileen

Morning Martine and Eileen,
Martine there is another thread on the whales on the Community Chat board....it is under "Goodmorning all". I have not been able to find anything else about the dolphins that they found on the eastern shore of Virginia yesterday..I'll check the newspaper.

Carol

Ok, the dolphins were "rough-toothed" dolphins - they are deep ocean animals, rarely seen close to shore. Here is the link to the page in our local newspaper (hope it works)
14 rough-toothed dolphins found dead in stranding on Eastern Shore island

Morning Carol,
Not the slicest word here in France, but perhaps it is too early. I'll tell you if some informations reach till here. As it seems a very serious ecological problem perhaps we could ask Jake if it is possible to open a new Bonaire talk about this matter, gather all the informations we find and perhaps help. It seems this anormal beachings concern the whole world, including Bonaire. What do you think about it ?

I think a new talk area on this type of thing would be great......obviously all of us who visit these boards are interested/concerned with all ocean life. It would be nice to be able to share different bits of info. For example, I have seen nothing locally about the squid that have washed ashore on the west coast of the US. Maybe Jake will consider it when he gets back.

Hi Everybody,
Hi Martine, Carol, Eileen,
I too am very saddened by what's happening, I have been reading a bit about it, I wonder if the sonar has something to do with it, and alters their senses in some way. (Why do they have to keep testing these things out) If its for war purposes, then its about time humanity took a different attitude, before it's too late.although I know its used for many purposes, I am no expert on these things.

Hello Maria,
How are you this morning, rather sad, like all of us. Unfortunately ( this is the astronomer talking) people try to find how to live on Mars or other far planets and do not care about our own. I think before we will be able to live on another planet our home one will be totally dead just because of man uncare. We can't escape for the moment and it is truly time to share and respect our Earth before it is too late, but is seems nobody or very few are concerned. I think Earth is giving us great signals she can't bear any longer pollution and destruction. We are living on the only planet in the solar system able to support life and we are unable to respect this life. When the mankind will understand this ?

Yeah, too bad about the whales. We should get together a drive to ban humans in the oceans.

Hi Martine,
Yes Fine thankyou, It has been raining here too most of the night, but now the sun is out and it's lovely. When you look around it is such a wonderful world we have. I think you are right Martine, there is no respect for our Earth. I think we are still too primitive.

Thanks for email Martine, I will get back to you soon. Just having the carpet fitted, we managed to get one in the end.
Have a good day all.

Hi Carol,
A bit quiet on Bonaire, but still early, I,m still waiting to catch a fish.
Thanyou for the information on the dolphins, it's very sad. It's strange what is happening, to these sea creatures, I wonder if there is an explanation.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I have been visitng the Bonaire Webcam for over a year now and in that time people come and go. I use it to converse about the underwater beauty on Bonaire, the local and transcient marine life, and to exchange happiness with people on their upcoming visits or post visits to Bonaire.

As a retired scuba instructor I know full well the fragile nature of our underwater world. However, I share none of the unrealistic sentiments about humankind on the surface that seems to be expressed here. I could go on about today's murders in the Middle East, or the War on Terrorism, or famine, or disease, or..... you get my point.

I would ask all to open other threads elsewhere if you wish to comment on these things, including whale and dolphin strandings. Please leave this wonderful thread to be apolitical and contoversy free. I for one want to enjoy sunrises, divers, and dreaming of my next visit to Bonaire. This is a happy website, as in Boniare, please leave it as you found it.

Thank you.

Maybe Kevin should post a past trip report :-) I think everyone has their own expectations on this page but I think it's okay to comment on related topics...prolonged discussion should probably go on community chat but some of us can't visit all the strings every day. I appreciated the updates but like to see the fish and land life too!

Bonaire...left by former salt miners. Havent seen them myself but read a lot on the various Bonaire sites about the island :-)

Maria,

The donkeys are a wonderful feature of Bonaire. They wander around wild, but unfortunately many are hit by cars. The Sanctuary has been set up to protect them and care for them.

Thanks for the info, Bill, I havent had a chance to read all the threads yet, being fairly new to the site. sad about donkeys being hit by cars, bit like the kangaroo's in Australia. The donkey sanctuary sounds like a nice place to visit on Bonaire.

I agree with Maria, as it is often reminded here on this BT to stick on the thread and avoid animated GIF. OK, no problem but this should be available for personal pictures as well. Please, forgive me, but I had to say.

Maria, the speed is limited between 40 to 60 Km/h.
Donkeys are everywhere but I never saw a bumped donkey. I think all Bonairian ( and tourists ) love the donkeys and drive very carefully. There are a lot of wild goats too, and iguanas and lizzards, those two species are not so lucky...

I agree Martine, Well it seems ok, as long as it is Bonaire related. I also agree with Barbara, sometimes there's not the time to read up on all the threads. Also community chat is more fun related and gifs rather then more serious chat, and while we are waiting for an interesting picture to post, where is the harm of commenting on things.(as long as it's not too long) It makes it all the more interesting.

Anyway, I am glad to see there were divers out! It is 2 days until moving day. Lots of small things to do. Next week, signing up for Diving Lessons (and upgrading the Bonaire membership :)!) See you tomorrow morning! Eileen
