You know what ? I guess Annie moved to Bonaire yesterday evening. At the present time she must have her first diving lesson. She surely appears tomorrow on the reefcam with pink fins and wave to us while pating Charlotte and hotlips...

Morning Brian,
Thanks for the cup of coffee. We just had lunch. Regarding the virtual dive, there is no hurry, and I am quite sure you are preparing a "pro" document. I particularly love clown fishes, I find them so cute, and I never saw a Napoleon fish, did you ? Must be quite impressive. Wish we'll be lucky.

Just came in for a break - it is getting hot out there! Martine - I asked my husband about his co-worker. He has been diving in the Mediteranean (excuse the spelling) but not in the red sea - I wish I could have helped :( .

Looks like a beautiful day in Bonaire! Eileen

Hi all,

Hot day in the "Eileen & Bill" (oops! that sounds like we are an item!!) territory of Central Ontario. 93F (34C) and humid with generous amounts of Sulpher Dioxide and other assorted junk!

Hi Eileen and Bill,
Do you live far from Toronto and Niagara Falls ? This was one of the most beautiful scene I ever saw in my life. Truly gorgeous. I was there early in May around 10 years ago and I was freezing while all the canadians were wearing shorts and T-shirts...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Eileen Kimmett on Sunday, July 21, 2002 - 11:24 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

That's OK Bill, I won't tell !

I have to stay inside for awhile, I am in great health, but I even have a hard time breathing in the smog.

Martine, I live about 50 km east of Toronto, about a 40 to 50 minute drive depending on the traffic. I work in Toronto, and the smog can be terrible, but the city has many great museums, galleries, shopping areas, dining etc. Niagara falls is about 2 1/2 hours away, and there are many beautiful areas down there!! Some of it is too commercialised though. There are a lot of wineries in the Niagara Region and every year we drive down with another couple and do the winery tour (Lots of sampling!). Eileen

Eileen thanks!!

Martine - I live to the west of Toronto - London - It is mid-way between Toronto and Windsor(Canada)/Detroit(USA). Windsor and Detroit are right across the river from each other. Takes about 2 hours (at 100 KM/Hr) to get from London to Toronto. I grew up (well THAT fact is debatable!) in Montreal and also lived for about 8 years in Toronto. So million+ population cities are in my blood. My son, 28, lives in Toronto. London (pop. 300,000) was way too small-town and conservative for him! Toronto is too expensive for me. But you know about expensive living in, or near, Paris!

As for Niagara Falls. If you can focus on the water and not look around too much it is great!!

Getting REALLY hot now. The cat has officially abandonded the deck because it is too hot. The air conditioning is working flat-out and falling behind. $$$$electric bills.......

Bill

Je comprends maintenant Bill pourquoi tu parles si bien français...I truly was impressed by Niagara Falls, and to be frank I didn't pay attention to what was around. seems very hot in your country, and I understand the pollution is hard to bear. I often happens here too and on the TV just after the meteo report we have a daily air quality report. Well, time for me to prepare the dinner, my hubby's stomach is roaring !

Annie, what a nice report. You certainely had a very very nice day. I am very happy for you all.
I feel surprised, you say Jake and Linda are coming to Paris tomorrow. Do you know how long they stay and where they stay ? I didn't meet Jake personnally but saw him at Divi Flamingo during the dive festival. It could have been nice to say hello to him and Linda and have a wogga together, but I didn't know they were coming, and I fear it's too late. I wish Annie they gave you the Bonaire virus and you'll go soon with your blue snorkel, needs to be tested in the sea, right ? Have a nice night all and see you tomorrow.

Hi Martine,
How are you, is the back better today?
Annie that was a good idea with the snorkel, I can imagine that must have been funny carrying it around. good job you didnt have to wear it.

Maria, I have packed the snorkel. Not sure about it though. I need someone to teach me confidence in the water. Dream to go to Bonaire, even if it is just to listen to diving stories from other bt'ers. There is a glass bottom boat there which may be ok for me.This island just looks like paradaise, The idillic place we would all like to be, and I hope it does not get spoiled by the tourist industry. I just know I will go there one day. Annie B.

Hi Maria,
Happy to hear you. You know, I imagine Annie wearing the blue snorkel at the station. LOL ! My back is getting worse, can't hardly breathe when standing. I think I call my doctor tomorrow morning cause I need to have my vertebra replaced in the right position. It's time for me to go to bed and I can hear my sleeping hubby snor from here...

Annie at least you have made a start, and if you do go to Bonaire at least you will know Jake and Linda, and then you could meet other BT's, it can open up a whole new world. (who would have thought just by joining a web site it would have led to a meeting, to make new friends.

Sorry to hear that Martine, it doesnt sound too good.perhaps a visit to the doctor would be a good idea, I know it can be painful, I had something similar a few years back, It took a while to get right. and now I have sciatica from last year and it is still a problem. (must be the age)

Maria, I now regard all the Bt'ers as friends. There are too many loonies on the other chat lines. This one is sooooo different, sooooo friendly and I trust them all. I thank them all for their friendship and their honesty. You just would not believe how hard Jake and Linda work to keep this a relatively safe site.It is the best. Annie B.

Annie,
I think it doesn't exist with PADI ( US diving federation), but with the french or other european federations you can have what is called "baptism". A 20 minutes dive no deeper than 4m and totally escorted and grasped by a divemaster. See in Cyprus if they do this initiation dive, even in the swimming pool. Do not worry, it is totally safe and they won't force you to go deeper than 2m if you do not feel it.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Maria Petrovic on Sunday, July 21, 2002 - 7:47 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

I agree Annie, It is a great site, nice and clean, and friendly too, and very interesting, its made me look at fish in a whole new context, and not just whats on a plate. There was a documentary on TV today about all sorts of fish in the ocean, and I was really glued to the TV.
Martine I think My daughter went on that sort of learner dive in Greece, as she had never done it before, and teach you a bit first then take you down. She even got her picture taken.

Martine, As I said I have packed the snorkel. I have also packed cotton wool. Don't like the water in my ears. I will have a go at it, but will not promise anything. As for your suggestion earlier about meeting up, that may not be impossible. One day maybe. I am not nervous any mor after meeting Linda and Jake.I just have to be able to get the time off work. Annie B.

Annie B, I am the same, but I dont like the water in my eyes, especially the salty sea water, as it makes my eyes sting. but perhaps with the mask it would be different.

Anyway night night for now, we will carry on next time.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Martine TLOUZEAU - Jean Paul GODARD on Sunday, July 21, 2002 - 8:00 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

I just want to add something before going to bed.
I can't see nothing without my glasses ( this is the age too, Maria, and I wear a mask fit for my sight ), but I noticed each time I am diving, my sight without glasses seems to improve. It's good to have your eyes, nose, ears washed with salty water, and even if you drink a bit ( you can't help), it cleans your throat. This time good night for true.

Maria and Martine, Maria, yes the mask does make the difference. if properly fitted then no water can get in you're eyes or nose I think, You just got to have confidence in the water, which iS something I have never had.I'm gonna try though.Night all. Annie B.
