Hi Babs, Kathy & Rosanne :-)

Kathy - I can't believe that! Too freaky for Florida. Glad it was far enough away - but still to feel the quake must have been scary.

Debbie - nice diver captures - what's with the upside down guy?

Timmy, what Kathy and Larry felt might have been a carry over from their skinny dipping last night:-O

While at the building lot today, I realized I had made a mistake in my earlier post. The guy in Judy's 9:18am post is Paul, not Chris.

Tom, that was too much fun last night, I highly recommend it to you all. lol :-)
Timmmy, seriously, some people felt it and some didn't. I thought the cat was under my chair for a second, then realized it was the whole house rolling. Larry came running in to me with eyes big as saucers. Our first and I hope LAST earthquake!

Kathy -

John just heard about it on TV and was shocked - and of course - I told him I already knew about it from you!

Today was Kira's B-Day and we had her party out at a Riding Academy - but never felt any tremmors out in the east end of the county. Too weird!

I truly thought a sinkhole was going to envelope my house and take it down, down. Larry yelled to me standing in front of me as I sat here at the computer not believing what was happening, "Earthquake!", and I thought and said, "no......no". Not in FL. There's a sinkhole opening up, is what I thought. We ran out on the deck. The water didn't move, the birds were all gone, kitty had gone in hiding, it was just...still. We could find nothing structually wrong with the house as we ran around it looking with eagle eyes for something, anything, sweating bullets in the humidity and just...not knowing what had happened. We found nothing, but couldn't forget the sound of tasmanian devils under the house and the floor rolling, and knew it was something, and Larry insisted it was an earthquake though I could find nothing online and couldn't believe that. When I did, it was 30 minutes later. I screamed to him that it WAS, he was right! We are so wide eyed today. Then we felt the aftershock around 12:00, just a low rumble that shook the house for maybe 15 seconds, but we knew that, too. But during the quake, we heard horrific noises under the house, and as he was standing there I watched him go up and down and I freaked, it was a wave, or wave upon wave, low waves, and it was frightening. Very, verrrrry strange.

G'night all. I'm not looking forward to 9/11 tomorrow. But I will wake up positive, I swear.

I've noticed when we have earthquakes here (I'm in the bay area, so we have a lot!) I feel them much more when I've been inside. Sorry Timmmmy you missed it, just imagine being drunk and trying to walk a straight line and can't, it's a similar effect.LOL!

Well, I assume we didn't feel anything because we were so far inland.... but it will be interesting to listen to co-workers around the cubie to see if anyone felt anything when inside.

Kathy - that must have been so scary. I think the worst part is not seeing anything but feeling vibrations & your house & ground shaking. Where can you go? What can you do? Can't imagine being directly over an earthquake!
Glad all is ok

Have a good night all

I would be terrified... please be safe and NO SHAKING !!!

[but you MIGHT want to shake the heck outta the bed at about 3 am just to scare Larry.]

I know I'm a least supposed to say "webcam" to post here, so, "webcam".
Kathy, sometimes the rolling is the nature of the quake, and sometimes it is exacerbated by soft ground or fill. During our "big one" in the bay area in '87, some landfill just liquified. In the marina district, what had been lawn was little shells that had been shaken to the top; the ground was like pudding during the shake, then turned back to dirt when it stopped.
This is just my civilian observation...I don't know more than anybody else around here.
I agree with Rosanne: I feel and hear them more when I'm inside.
Oh, and I have a friend who was on his way to the world series which was being played here during our last big one who didn't even feel a 7+ quake. He thought his tires needed a little air, didn't notice a thing wrong until he got to the ball park and saw people streaming out.
Sorry for your scare. I hope it turns into just a good story down the line.
Kelly, you're evil and should be encouraged.

Glad everyone is safe after the earthquake!
Have not been online for about a week, my hard drive crashed and it was going to take more to repair it than to get a new one. So I have a new one to talk on which to talk to everyone.

Andy

Kathy, I told Michael last night and he looked at me like I was crazy...I said, yes, Fl had an earthquake!

I agree with Rosanne and Barbara, I feel them more inside. We feel tremors at work at least every couple of months. You get this odd feeling that the building is sort of moving beneath you...then everyone says "did you feel that?" The worst at work in the building I'm in was the entire table, computer monitor, floor, was really swaying back and forth. I sort of froze, really, trying to put it all together. Came out of the office and everyone was a bit stirred. We're on the third floor of our building, so I'm not sure there would be a lot we could do. We decided if we felt one that long again we were all heading for the stairs fast!
