Is the barcam a black & white webcam? Just wondering why everything always seems so "grey". It looks like it's facing the same way as the south beach cam so I'll presume it isn't the sunlight washing out the lens.

See, I TOLD you it was a dumb question. lol

Randy, no such thing as a dumb question. Nope, it's full living color...I think it is just the color adjustment maybe?

Hi Cynde,

SURE there ARE dumb questions and I have asked and been asked them. You know, like "Is it safe to eat summer sausage in the winter?", or "Do they make alphabet soup in other languages?" LOL

I guess it's just the striking color difference among the cameras in the "sand" that's throwing me off.

Randy...no dumb questions...just dumb people (did I really say that?) LOL

I think it has actually changed in the last week (the color). I remember the roof at bongo's being a kind of pink color.

I don't understand the difference in ground color from the beach cams to the bar cams. Maybe it's that the beach cams are showing the wrong color instead. I don't remember it being so "sand" colored, if that makes any sense.

Randy,

The cameras for the North & South BeachCams are of a different make, model, and even manufacturer from the one used for the BeachBarCam.

The latter Cam under-saturates colors (but can see REALLY well at night with minimal additional light), while the other two over-saturate (hence the reddish tones.

Jake

Thanks Jake!

Makes sense now to me. Considering I have maybe a 24 pack of crayons ability to differentiate colors in the first place, I've almost surprised myself just noticing the IS a difference. lol

Keep up the great work. I guess I better start a Bonaire trip penny jar sometime soon.

I'm hoping to correct some of the over-saturation of the BeachBarCam within a few days. Part of the saturation is 'cos Bongo's roof looks pure white, and the camera squints (reduces the AGC) to try to fit the image into it's range of display. It's the same thing *you* do when you see something bright. I've checked, and the roof is showing at fully saturated levels (255, 255, 255)

Adding into that, I can still see some reflected glare, making the "squint" even worse. I think I can eliminate the glare, which will help. The glare was *really* bad in the previous location, both from the beach and the water. Now it's over-saturated from Bongo's roof. Sigh. Isn't technology wonderful?

None of the electronic cameras have the wide range that your eye & brain combination can distinguish, so they have to pick a range that they want the camera to operate in. Since they wanted the BeachBarCam to operate in near darkness, it has problems when it's trying to see a bright scene, or one with a lot of glare. You could put a rather expensive auto-iris in front of it, but it'd cost 3 times what the whole camera cost, or more. Some of that stuff is wildly pricey.

Here's a thought: we could get Henk to repaint the roof a moderate tan!
