Jake's info in the other thread seems quite promising .. let's hope the surge won't go out of hand ..

It's sad however it's now strengthening and on it's way to Kingston ...

Ivan is also a category 5 now - the strongest hurricane rating there is. It's located just above Aruba around now (and closer to Aruba than it was to Bonaire). Let's hope they weather the storm.

Can't wait to see what the WebCams have to show this morning - my flight boards in about 35 minutes, hopefully it will be light enough to see something by then...

Could be a lot worse though!

I'm guessing the South BeachCam is water logged. Hopefully the sun will evaporate the water.

Now if only the ReefCam would get enough light before I board my flight (wireless Internet is a wonderful thing :-) )...

Based on the Weather Channel, and views from the Web cams, Bonaire was only grazed (hopefully). The storm surge, based upon reports, was to be 3 to 5 feet and hitting hardest those point facing due north. If all this is true, Bonaire, all thing considered, should be in good shape. I plan on making a few call to those down there at 7:30am.

It looks not 2 bad, but we shouldn't 4get there's still the danger of waves (in the news over here they mention they are expecting waves of 3.5 meters).
The current path puts the eye of right on top of Kingston :-( I do hope they are well-prepared over there!

Jake good luck getting home to your loved ones.

I guess you are right Igor:-{)}

This past night has been a restless one. Although there is surely damage on Bonaire, which I am sure we all hope is minimal. Seeing that the cams are working is great!!!

I just compared yesterdays reefcam capture to this mornings' and it appears that the mooring block did not slide last evening:-{)}

Also noticed that although there is quite a bit of rubble on the Beach at Bongo's and possibly the corner of the dining area was eroded somewhat, the cable seems to have remained buried.

I hope that today, people residing on Bonaire, post that they are all o.k..

Looks like Bonaire has been spared the worst of the storm.

Wherever Ivan goes it will make a mess. I just hope Florida is spared this one.

Jake I hope you have safe travels today so you cang get home quickly to Linda and the kids. It must have been so difficult to be off island during this time!
I am so glad to hear that Diana is ok and that the eye missed our paradise.
I am anxiously awaiting to hear Linda's report. Saving a big hug for all of you when I get there in a few weeks.

One good thing...remember how the north beach cam needed a good cleaning? Looks like it got one!

Bad thing, they've put this BIG new curve in the projected path of Ivan now that has it plowing through the Keys and up FL from the bottom. Don't want to see that happen at all.

Anxiously awaiting reports from Bonaire people on how the island weathered the storm. Anything, everything - I'm starved for news! And I'll bet Diana will have one heck of a trip report!!

There was another fellow and his wife who were supposed to get there yesterday as well...can't remember his name (he said look for the Vikings fans). Wondering about everyone!

Good morning everyone...made it through most of yesterdays threads last night and checked in on the NOAA maps ...glad to see it looks like Ivan is moving away but it is surely worrisome for many other islands as it has gained strength...I hope you make it back today Jake...away from any storm. Glad to hear Diana and Ruud are okay too and hope to hear from others that not too much damage was done

David, good luck!!

Meryl, consider me your remote reporter... I got a text message from Diana (boy, I should have copyd and paste the text... :-) )

There is damage along the coast line, the divehouse at Divi is damaged, mostly due to waves. I hope the reef is not harmed (to much). As soon as I get info, I'll let you know. Diana was going to try to get on BT when they restore the power.

Jake, did you manage to get on the island save and sound?

Still thinking about you all.

My prayers to everyone in the islands. Looks like Bonaire dodged the worst of it (I hope).

Looks like the south beach cam may have just gotten salt spray on the lens. A bit of a wash with clean water will probably clear it up. If not, there are spare cameras on island.

The spots on the beachbarcam overnight that looked funky are also salt spray, I expect. That camera contains infrared illuminators for night showing, and the light from the illuminators was being reflected back in by the stuff on the viewport. A bit of a cleaning with fresh water should solve that too.

Dan
