Thought Part Duo was getting hard to load up, especially with the extra draw on the website.

Here are some pics from a few moments ago. I had a hard time getting to the cams but perserverance paid off....I hope all ends well and everyone will be fine. Praying not too much surge will affect anyone or the coral and marine life, etc. CArole

It's good to see a light on. Wind is reading 25mph now, that seems closer to what we're witnessing. I hope they're right about this not going to be so bad. Continued positive thoughts!

Just out of curiosity, is anyone online that lives at or around lighthouse beach? I'm um, concerned for our place there...

Josh, I hope your place is OK. If anyone on Bonaire can respond, they will.

I wonder what's happening up in the Park? They just finished rebuilding everything since the Lenny surge in 1999...I hope nothing is damaged again...they did build a sea wall up there for protection, tho.

Hate to see the sun set tonite....it might be my imagination, but the sky looked "brighter" a few moments ago..hopefully it will be over soon. Nothing scarier than a hurricane in the dark at nighttime...I recall that being very, very spooky as a kid. Carole

Don't see lights on the pier :-(

Also the wind gauge seems to have given up.

While any damage is too much, we should think & pray for those in Grenada. My boss has family down there that they can't get in touch with. The government was not making a big deal of the storm. They got the warning from the family in the US that they were going to get the direct hit.

Just heard on the weather channel that Bonaire was expiriencing 40 mph winds.

Weather Channel current conditions for Aruba listing 20 mph winds. (no listings for either Bonaire or Curacao).

Marcus, I heard that as well. I think we can safely say that Bonaire was spared the worst of it. I look forward to sunrise on Bonaire, feel sure that most everything will be intact, and can't wait to see it. :-)

Sue, they turn the pier lights off, so I wouldn't worry about that as long as we can see other lights, as we can. I feel for Grenada as well. It's a shame we hear about things so much later - we've all gotten used to the immediate report, not to mention the live web cam. I read a report on CNN about the Grenada hit earlier, and of course it touches those with people there harder, so (((hugs))). I hope your boss and his family are OK.

To the sunrise (and to "weathering" the storm)! :-)

If you look at http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=IHATO1 you'll see that winds peaked at about 22mph at Eden Beach as well.

I spoke to Linda around 7pm and other than not having power and dealing with leaks around windows (from the gusting winds pushing water in on windows which normally see no rain), things were pretty much fine. An e-mail from her an hour later indicating she was shutting down the UPS battery for the night indicated much of the same. Pretty much just a mild tropical storm effect, at least inland in Belnem.

I understand from another friend that waves at Plaza were pretty high around 6pm. Not sure about coastal water activity outside of that. I know we all did see the water rise quite a bit at Eden Beach, but so far, apparently not enough to flood the room in which the WebCam Capture server is located, and that's only a about 5-6 feet above sea level, I think. Of course, a lot depends on where any surge was coming from and whether the geography of Bonaire and Klein Bonaire blocked any surge as a result.

In any event, it looks to me (from afar, mind you) like it was a close call and near miss. We'll be able to tell more in the morning when the sun's up, no doubt, and people on Bonaire start reporting in. I'll be on a plane at 6am on my way to Miami, so I'll be checking in late morning, I guess...

Jake

The weather guy on the weather channel just said that while it was still possible for Bonaire to expirience hurricane force winds in gusts, things were looking pretty good overall.

I wish the weather channel would be alittle more discriptive in where a hurricane is and not just were it could be going!
Can someone hold a candle or light up to the cams! :-) Hope all is well with the island... waiting on the light of day!
Liz thanks for the update! Congratulations on your upcoming move.... can you build a basement?

Jake,
As a Husband and Father that was out of town when Colorado had wild fires close to our home, I can understand what you are going through.

I did not get a chance to stop by your home last year but I hope you will be around on my next trip in Oct.

Good Luck
