HiYa Guys
As a frequent visitor to Bonaire (Sorobon) over the past 3 years (usually 3 times a year) I find part of me still remains there when I leave. I left Bonaire a week ago. I notice the barometric pressures are dropping - indicating that Eric is nearing. My thoughts & best wishes go out to the people of Bonaire. I am watching EVERY cam change.

I AM GETTING NOTHING DONE TODAY..am glued to the webcams and scouring the internet for weather info..ugh..

Wally, that is a BEAUTIFUL IMAGE..wow..I can see the eye so well defined. Thank GOD it is further away. When Ivan hit Grenada it was dead on so it flattened the island. The prison crumbled and prisoners escaped. Some of the people incacerated are the men who attempted a failed coupe 20 years ago..egads..

:-(

I am at my parents home right now, I have been could check some of the happenings but the internet connection is soooo slooow that it would take forever to load up everything. I hope everyone is safe. I hope the eye stays out in the ocean. My thoughts are with you all.

Has Diana checked in?

Hi Folks,

From WebCam Operations, we've got a few announcements and a request.

As you can imagine, the servers handling the webcam web site is rather overloaded today. To help with this load, the auto-refresh has been changed from 2 minutes to 10 minutes. This means if you're not at your desk, your computer will make less-frequent requests of the server.

We are pushing about 3x to 4x normal traffic out of the server. It's having some trouble keeping up.

PLEASE PLEASE do not sit pounding the refresh on your browser. This will just overload the server more.

We understand you all want to know what's happening, so do we (Jake's stateside, and I'm home near Boston).

Depending on the storm surge and damage, the cameras may be offline for a while after the storm. We will provide details as we know more.

Dan

dan, thanks for the message.
I am receiving many mails (wannadive website) with people (non-BT-ers) who are watching the cam also; perhaps anounce that on the website itself, is does that give too much trouble technically for you?

One more comment to Dan's - the 10 minute refresh applies only to the public WebCams site (at http://www.bonairewebcams.com) - folks who have paid memberships and thus login and are able to access the member site at http://my.bonairewebcams.com will still see the normal 2 minute refresh as a thank you for their on-going support of the WebCams.

I just got word via e-mail from Linda that Belnem has lost power. She's running on UPS battery power now for the next few hours.

I'd guess that this means that the WebCams are on battery power now, or will be soon.

Hurricane Greetings from Florida....

Hello Bonaire and BTer's,

We are picking up from Hurricane Francis and actually regained power today (obviously). Palm Beach Co. and north got slammed pretty good, but surprisingly few injuries. Schools are closed until Monday.

Now, we too, are watching Ivan for you folks on island, plus for us this coming weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Probably is storm surge, Sally & Martin.

Linda just e-mailed that power came back on in Belnem a short while ago. Theory from a friend passing by the house was that it was just a test of the system by the utility company...

Hi Bud, 2 of our editors live in Jacksonville...they have been without power since Saturday. I just got a call from them, and their neighbors house caught on fire from a generator that they had left on while unattended (the neighbors)...so that was it, they said "We're going to a hotel!!" They haven't been able to use thier "facilities" either because they are on a pump sump, and weren't sure how full the holding tank was!

Vis seems to be holding, that's a good thing...

My guess as to what's happening with the UW cam is that a combination of high sedimentation from the surge and low light are resulting in not being able to see much underwater any more.

Another possibility is that the mooring the ReefCam is on has slipped down the slope a bit, but I don't think that's the case right now - looking at a large version of the ReefCam image shows a bit more shadow where the wreck is. Should be interesting to find out what's happened...

Jake

Yep - in looking through the archives the ReefCam is just suffering from low light conditions - an hour and a half earlier than usual. It must be really dark there now because of cloud cover (and sedimentation).

Folks, I would like to stay with you but it is quite late and I have to be at work tomorrow.

I'll be there tomorrow early morning.

Weather channel just said the core hurricane force winds will miss the ABC's. Expect winds, rain, and heavy gusts from the west. Lots of surf and storm surge from the west.

Do you all think the wind reading is right (at the bottom of the all cams page)? Looking at the weather channel winds should be much, much higher than 15mph - and it looks it. And I can't believe the boats out there.
