I hope Martine and Annie took pics. :-)

Hi Ron,
exactly in two weeks time I'm at Bonaire! Maybe we see each other at the lovely island! We head back to the Netherlands at the 19-th.

This isn't fair. I've got really bad PBD and you guys are going there in a couple of weeks! I've booked next year's trip but it really hasn't helped. My next dive trip isn't until Christmas time - visiting my son in Okinawa.

Hi Chatters. Just popped in to say that my meeting with Martine went very well yesterday, and she is just the most wonderful lady ever. I think we spent most of the time just laughing. I am working on my story to post on CC. It may not be ready until tomorrow though. We did take pictures, and I am sure that Martine's shots are much better than mine are. I have to sort through them yet. More later. Annie B.

Hi again all. I just watched Open Water. OMG, my stomach is still churning. Kathy. I now know why you're friends think you are quite mad. LOL. It's a bit amateurish, but the story is good. I think you have to associate with diving to appreciate it. Annie B.

Put it this way. I won't be learning to scuba.

Sorry guys. Amateurish is the wrong word to use, maybe more like watching a home movie. But in general quite good. It spooked me, that's fur sure.

Cynde. Don't watch it, you will not go into the water for years. Annie B.

Oh my, Annie. I hate that it's that "good" of a movie (convincing, I suppose I mean) that it really instills fear. :-(

I know I used to think that I would never dive where there are sharks, but every year we see more and more, and even did a shark feeding dive in the Bahamas (but they were everywhere there, anyway, and just swam past, even in the Keys) and so the "fear" is gone since I'm used to their behavior and presence...so I'm hesitant to see the movie, myself. I don't need a new fear! Right now, I have a healthy respect, but not fear, of sharks!

Watched the Abyss again the other night again. Now that's my fear, no air!

Keep missing sunset, but looking at the archives, they're not that great the last few days. Can't wait to see those pics of you and Martine. :-)

Kathy. DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!!! Not good for divers. The thing is, I don't think sharks will attack a scuba diver, or at least I haven't heard of such an attack. These guys were bobbing and kicking on top of the water. I think that is what attracted the sharks. Annie B.

Annie...in the actual account of what happened in Australia there was no mention of sharks. Their diving gear that was found had not been damaged by sharks. But of course, "Hollywood" changed the local and added the sharks for the fear aspect.

Good Evening! Glad you had a great day yesterday Annie B!!!! As for Open Water, I'll never watch it, I do not do well in those kind of movies :-). I have read too that the storyline has been changed from the real story.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Annette (BonaireTalk Deity - Post #11917) on Monday, August 23, 2004 - 10:13 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Rog & Karen.

Yeagh. I know what you are saying here, and thanks for you're comments.

In the movie, the dive gear was eventually discarded by the gal, that was obviously for the effect before she put herself under. I guess what it said to me, is make sure you dive with every single safety precaution that is possible for you to carry. They didn't appear to have any safety gear in the movie. Of course, without the Hollywood touch, there wouldn't have been a movie. I think that the moral of the story is, don't take things for granted, and always make sure that you are safe. I guess as a non diver this just gave me the colly wobbles which is obviously what the movie was meant to do. I guess knowing you guys just brought it a little more closer to home for me.

I know you people here are not daft, and this is NOT the kind of movie you want to see. I just wanna make sure that you keep yourselves safe at all times 'cos I love you all. Annie B.
