How can you drag yourself away? I keep feeling like I ought to be doing something - I've been concentrating so hard on the book that it's weird to just hang out and play!

See you SOON. Guess I'll just *hang* out with Jake.

Nope, can't find the click sound - used to have it. Can someone tell me the magic - auto refresh ketsrokes? I lose it every time I go to the LARGE images.

Rusty, I loose the refresh every time I go to the large images as well. So, I have two windows open, one to click on the large images, and one that I leave alone. I remember Jake sayint it was control or shift something...F5 will refresh the screen as well, that works sometimes for me to get it back on track.

A flurry of something!

Cynde,
I escaped LA in 1984, but return every few months to visit family and friends. I used to consider myself a "southern Californian" at heart, but now I am not so sure. The traffic, the masses, the confusion, the noise all make me appreciate the Sonoran desert of Tucson more and more. Also, diving in the Sea of Cortez is nice. It ain't Bonaire, but it will do until I can return again. Carl

Carl, I grew up in San Diego (many many years ago)...we live about an hour north of SD...We only go "North" of the "Orange Curtain...aka Orange County" to catch a dive boat out of Long Beach, or see a play in LA. I agree on the traffic, congestion...et.al...if we didn't live near the ocean, we would move for sure! We've dove Cabo a couple of times...is that where you dive in the Sea of Cortez?

Cynde,

I mostly dive at San Carlos, which is about 200 miles south of the border from Arizona. I have a place and a boat at Kino Bay, which is about 60 miles north of San Carlos. I can see the island of Tiburon, Mexico's largest island, about 18 miles off shore from my place. One of these days a bunch of us divers from Tucson are going to dive Tiburon using my boat, and my place as our base of operation, if we can ever get it coordinated. In fact, I am leaving in the morning for Kino Bay. Hasta la vista. Carl

Hey Dan! It is great to see you popping in - howz the AK weather these days? We are loving summer here in MA - sunshine and mid-80s. The Fourth is shaping up as a good day, too for the chicken BBQ on the town common. Sounds quaint, huh? I plan to do some walks and talks in the old cemetery across from the common tomorrow. Should get some folks who are wandering around to come poke their noses in.

Cynde - I love that big swarm of fish. Great shot. I had the cams open but was also cropping some photos I took this past week. I have four months worth of images to crop and sort. I was trying to stick to images for the book - and I'm finally getting a chance to look through them all.

See you all later on - tonight or tomorrow morning. Time to crank up the grill and toss the supper in.

Hi, Rusty! The weather in Juneau is not as good as it appears to be on Bon
1 (You realize, of course, that all this pics are faked. Reality can't be so beautiful? LOL)

Of course the weather in Juneau is good, because we need the rain!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By AK. Dan (Extraordinary BonaireTalker - Post #1211) on Saturday, July 3, 2004 - 5:20 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Well, I need to get ready for the picnic this evening before the fireworks that start at 12:00 midnight. (picnic? in the rain? Hey, in Juneau if you don't picnic in the rain and snow, you won't get much picnicing at all)

See you all tomorrow!

Oh, if you want to watch the Juneau fireworks, log onto http://pajk.arh.noaa.gov/cams/juneau_southeast.jpg
The only problem is this camera is only on a 15-minute update and the fireworks are only around 30 minutes. But you'll get to see some! Remember, Juneau is five hours earlier in the day than Bon!

Hi all,

Dan & I are done. All the WebCams are permanently mounted (the "permanenting" was why three of the cams went off line for a bit today). The underwater temperature probe was also installed this morning, with help from Niki and Bob. You'll notice that the UW Temps are not quite so balmy as they were yesterday :-)

We've cleaned up our work area at Eden Beach, put all the spare parts and cables in storage, and are now about to rest our aching backs over pizza (vegan for Dan of course). Dan heads back home tomorrow, and we spend the day at the Wilhelmina Plein in a tent for Dia di Arte to promote the Gallery. The fun never ends ;-)

At some point in the next few days I will update the BonaireWebCams Web site with more accurate information about where the WebCams are located too.

So, enjoy the WebCams!

Jake

Olaf - We're still unpacking from the move. Slowly getting there, but it's tough...

Everyone - I forgot to mention this earlier, but for the "StreetCam" (anyone have a better name for it yet?), Dan got a new type of camera which is very good in low light situations, and in total darkness offers its own infra red illumination. Should be interesting to see how it works on its first full night of operation... It's certainly showing pictures now even well after sunset...

Hi, Barb...you're probably gone by now....I'm editing some photos from our recent trip to Bonaire....it's addicting, too!! I'll post some shortly. Have a good nite! Carole

PS I just received an email from a friend who is traveling thru SE Asia right now...he has daylight and I'm here in the dark. Small world, for sure. He's "live" and so am I. He ran into some folks from Curacao and they talked about the diving there. I have been trying to get him to Bonaire for years now....he's from Santa Barbara, Calif and dives all over the world..told him he hasn't seen anything ....... yet! LOL. Carole

The new StreetCam (located at Bongos) is a different camera type than we've used previously. We were curious to see how it'd work. The camera switches to black and white in very low light, and also uses infrared emitters to provide illumination in total darkness.

I was watching that camera early this morning before first light here on Bonaire to see what it'd look like too. I agree it's eerie. Adds some new fun to the system though.

How about just calling the street cam the BT CAM because that is where are whole BT family goes to say hi to everyone when they are in paradise AND it keeps us connected to the creators! :-)

Nice work, Dan! It seems to be working out just fine with the new camera type at the beach bar cam. Thanks! Carole
