As has been discussed in this thread:
The Future of the Bonaire WebCams?

THIS current thread (No Talk Just Commit!) is dedicated to those who are willing to make an online commitment toward the future of moving/housing/relocating of the WebCams if it becomes necessary. There is no minimum, and if the other options that Jake has in the "hopper" now materialize, there may be no need. So, that being said:

I'll start with $100.00 commitment per year (with the option to increase that if I get a raise:-))

I had a thought... [dangerous, I know]... but what about the money left in the Bonaire Talk fund??? I think it's about two thousand ducketts...

That money was given in good faith to defray Cyndee's living costs in PR. I have purposely not committed any $ yet on this thread, because I don't agree with us paying to keep the cams alive, and some resort benefiting greatly by increased guests, foot traffic, and sales. In the true typical BT fashion, the good hearts (and wallets) are opening up to save the cams. There are over two thousand dollars already committed to continue supporting the cams from miles away, but nothing locally. I don’t think this is the answer so I, for one, have not promised any money yet. I did pledge to support the business, or businesses, that take on the support of the cams, and I will. However I am not promising to send my money to any resort that may ‘allow’ the prepaid cams on their premises, (and if I’m hearing Jake correctly, that won’t be the case anyway). There are still too many unknowns, and while time is short, there still is time. Sorry - this was supposed to be a no talk thread, but in you bringing up the existing fund, which was given for another purpose, I had to make my feelings known.

Gail, your thoughts are appreciated. The funds that are left from those that donated to help me in Puerto Rico, are still in the account, and will remain there. We have discussed (through emails, Jake, Linda, Kelly and I) that until the appropriate time, those that donated to the fund will decide what to do with the money. Whether it be kept in a BT fund for future BTalkers that end up in a crisis (hopefully not like mine), or for another cause or purpose. Then Trustee's will be appointed to the account (those that donated would be a part of picking the Trustee's, whether it be me, Jake, Linda, Kelly, or whomever). So for the moment, the funds that were donated are staying put, until the timing is right to take a poll and see what everyone wants to do with the money...and will be on a different thread than the current one.

Gail, as you say, Jake has made it clear (and I think we all can agree) that no entity should have the webcams for free at our collective expense. So, if you'd like to commit, do it on this thread, otherwise speak freely on another thread. Sorry if that sounds harsher than I mean.
:-)

Carl

Oh dear, I surely didn't mean to offend anyone, I assumed it would be offered to the people who contributed first... if they wanted a refund or not, before a decision was made.. just tossing out a possible source of $$$

I agree with Jake that no business should benefit from the cams if they won't pony up. But in typical BTer fashion, everyone wants to help, but no one is really sure of what do to other than send emails and send money.

I know Cynde explained, but we were going to keep that money in the fund until another [god forbid] crisis arose, but I certainly believe this qualifies as a bona fide BT crisis.

No one's been offended! :-) These are theoretical commitments, so we know the money's there if we're lucky enough to hear that we have a partner.
I don't agree with Gail, 'I don't agree with us paying to keep the cams alive'. If a business will pay some $$, let's commit, at least for a year.

Any more commitments out there?

I agree with Gail (and Jake) that these businesses will benefit greatly from having the webcams.

If a resort like the Plaza ponies up for the $6500, that's just 20-40 extra room nights or 3-5 guests staying one week that they need to fill, which isn't a big stretch to think that someone may choose them over another resort due to the webcam. Last night's empty hotel room cannot be sold today...

I'm quite surprised that the local merchants & business owners that are frequent posters on this board have been silent on this issue. They should be the most aware of the traffic the webcam would generate.

Just my $.02
