Good to see you out of hiding S. Jos! :-)

Girls, as far as I remember, I never saw lightning and heard thunder in a tropical country, even if they often are stormy. I think it's because there is no cold fronts in the tropical areas, but I could be wrong.

Martine- that makes sense (about the lighting!)

Barbara- It can't take that long to fly there from CA? We drive 7 hours to Chicago, fly 5 hours to Jamaica and then fly 1 hour to Bonaire. Long trip, but definitely worth it! I can see where your parents would come into consideration especially since there are only 3 days (I think just 3) that you can actually fly into and out of Bonaire!

Yes, Angela it is 24 or more hours due to at least 3 layovers....must be a west coast thing...:-( It even took that long to get to St. Thomas last time I went....We more commonly go to Hawaii than the Caribbean...lots of similar fishes and warm, clear water :-)

Angela, Barb is right, it takes a LONG time to get there! Air Jamaica is only 1 stop, LAX to Montego Bay, then on to Bonaire (usually about a 17 hour trip). Last time I went AA because they had more flexible times, but you have to take a redeye out of LAX regardless. It took me 26 hours to get there due to broken planes, but it is worth it!

Cynde- doesn;t sound like fun. The first year we went, we almost had to spend two days in Montego Bay because we left Chicago late and missed the last flight into Bonaire. Air Jamaica was going to put up 32 people for two days but in the end decided to make another flight. Good thing too, because we wouldn't have been able to dive in Jamaica and I hear it's not that great!

Go Grizo??? Angela, it was a LONG day to say the least, but I was by myself and kept saying my mantra "Bonaire Bonaire Bonaire" and managed to arrive with a pretty good attitude! I even managed to get up the next morning for my checkout dive! Let's see...32 people for 2 days or one flight to Bonaire....sounds like they made the right decision!

Yeah, we had a bad snowstorm the night before and spent forever (about 9 hours) in O'Hare before we took off. "Supposedly" the pilot got sick (we heard rumors that he went out drinking thinking that we wouldn't take off because of the weather) and we had to wait for another pilot to come in to fly us out of there so it upset everything. I can see why you would get up for the checkout dive, too excited to sleep I bet!
