Todd,

Thank you for marking the lionfish. Please report him on the Lionfish Sighting Report so all the people on the Lionfish Removal Team knows there is a lionfish marked at Boka Slagbaai. If you need help let me know, I would be happy to post for you.

That's what they say.....so what? An exhibit at the airport would be a great impact to new arrivals to see it up close and in person...

the GA Aquarium is doing that.. theie exhibit is pretty amazing.

we found one (didn't have markers with us). he was at "the lake". Swim to the bouy, drop and go out to the second reef and take a right. He was at about 69 feet. If someone else finds and gets this guy, let me know, please.

Tardmaster,

Please fill out online lionfish sighting report so the lionfish removal team is aware of location. Not all the people on the LF team read BT.

Good news, since this online form was published on BT, 9 new lionfish locations were reported. :) Good job! Reporting will help to get lionfish and markers off the reef.

Tardmaster,

Good job, your lionfish is on the report. I'll let you know when someone captures it. If you happen to go out again and want to place a marker near it, that would be very helpful.

Tardmaster,

Sorry you aren't here to mark the site yourself. However, your directions on the lionfish location report are very good. I will let you know when the lionfish is caught. :)

Cindi,

Cool, I'm assuming that means that the lionfish was removed from ocean .

If so, great.

Tardmaster Jerry,

I checked the lionfish-reporting logbook. Two team members went out twice to search, found no lionfish so they took location off the report. Without a marker it can be difficult to locate a lionfish unless it happens to be perched in plain sight, but team members try if someone reports a sighting. Hopefully if someone is in that area again and spots it, they can mark it with a ribbon & cork marker so we have a better chance to get lionfish off the reef.

The other day a diver told me they had spotted a lionfish and marked it with a beer bottle (it just happened to be nearby on the sand) since they had no lionfish markers with them. Hours later when someone went out to capture the lionfish, the bottle had been taken to shore. :) Fortunately, the diver who told me about the lionfish went out again after I told him of the failed attempt to capture and marked the lionfish location with a cork & ribbon marker tied to dead coral. A team member went out and successfully captured the lionfish. So you can see that marking and reporting with detailed information about the location that will guide the capture team directly to the lionfish can help make the capture process much more efficient.

It's important that at least one person in your group have a ribbon & cork marker when you go out to dive and more important to report the sighting even if you don't have a marker. You can get cork & ribbon markers from most of the dive shops, even if you are not diving with them. STINAPA supplies dive shops with markers. When you check in for tanks, ask your dive shop to give you markers and if you don't use them before you leave you can give them back or pass them on to other divers.
