On a Curacao website I ran into a story about this company:

They claim to convert garbage into a useful commodity.
Apparently they already started building a facility on Aruba.

How interesting! There are a lot of questions to be answered - mostly about toxic substances in garbage - but the process looks promising. Thanks for the links.
