The renovation of the runway at BIA (Bonaire International Airport) is still uncertain, now that the Netherlands are putting the projects involving a lot of money on the backburner as long as it is unclear what the Bonairean Board of Governors wants regarding the political reformations-Amigoe (12 Dec 2009)

so...........

I guess I don't see a permanent treatment plant happening for a while. I hope even the temporary plant is on its way.

Given that nothing that costs big money is likely to happen until after the relationship with Holland is resolved, I question if this is the right time for agressive action.

A day or two ago there was an article in a Dutch newspaper that ALL funding from Holland for Bonaire is frozen as per direct. Guess now how this will affect the situation of the still to be bought sewage treatment plant on Bonaire.......
Maybe we don't even have to react because nothing will and can be done now either to the runway of Flamingo airport.... it's just a matter of time before that will be closed for international flights...... Problem solved the Bonairian way (sit under a tree and wait. The wind will take care if it...)

I can't see anything happening that takes political will until the Holland-Bonaire relationship is resolved. Politicians the world over have the belief that the best thing for their constituents is their personal political survival.

Tom, If Bonaire decides to "go it alone" in favor of free association and "disconnect" from Holland, there will be no money from Holland and the sewage plant will never be built! Then the dominos will fall and Bonaire will become another "third world" island (like Haiti) full of crime, corruption, and destruction of the natural world.

I hope the Bonairean people will choose wisely for what is in their best economic interests and not just the interests of a few.

The Bonairian people have chosen years ago already..... The exact reason why Holland stops with funding anything from now on......

The Bonarian people chose in the recent referendum that Holland has been honoring until the 'new' party and the member who switched decided to make a change. If this was a novel, there would be suspicion of the long range motives and intentions of 'the switcher'. Holland only began to withhold money with this recent change, not 'years ago'.

And what is the history of Eugene R. Abdul that he should come to Bonaire and upset the island by agitating for a new referendum? Bonaire Reporter says, 'Mr. Eugene R. Abdul, LL.M. is former Governor of St. Eustatius. He is a founder of Awor T’E Ora, the movement for a second Bonaire Referendum.' This looks like another good place to 'follow the money'.
