Jake,

Have you heard anything about bonefish and permit in the salt flats. Is the fishing any good there? I think you need permission. Any info will be helpful.
Coming in late March.
Dave

I went once with Multifish (under previous owners) - it was an incredible morning - peaceful, serene, just wow.

Talk to Multifish or Piscatur about going there. It's technically not allowed, but they do manage to take people there (see http://www.BonaireFishing.com for contact info).

2 years ago two of the people I travel with arranged for a day of bonefishing in the salt flats with a local fishing guide. He provided all gear and lunch; a wonderful Dutch gentleman, middle-aged, whose name I'm afraid I do not recall. Anyway, they came back to the house from their day of fishing, never having had an opportunity all day to even cast a line. So they spent the day wading around in the shallow, flamingo-muck water, trying to sneak up on the fish. I think the best part of the day for them was how close they actually got to the flamingoes, but the fishing wasn't what they were hoping for. As with many other activities, tho, you take your chances and enjoy the moment!

Don't know about having to "sneak up on the fish" - you can't see them anyhow because the water's silty. We just found a nice spot (Multifish provided the gear - regular fishing rods with casting reels - not fly fishing gear - and bait was a fake warm), settled our toes and feet into the muck, and cast away. Meanwhile flocks of flamingos flew by overhead, and nary a sound other than the occasional flap flap of wings and the splash of a lure going in or out of the water.

Your experience sounds wonderful, Jake. My friends related what sounded like a march thru the salt flats... :-( ...so they have checked bonefishing in Bonaire off of the list - BTDT!
