What is the island like during the "international sailing regatta" (october)? are things crowded? is diving more difficult?
thanks

Russ, our first trip to Bonaire was during Regatta week and we did not even know it. We were there for two weeks...the first week was Regatta...very crowded and lots of motorcycles cruising around at all hours of the day and night and pretty noisy. We did not know that our first week was not a "normal" week on Bonaire as it was our very first trip. When the second week of our trip started there was a very, very noticeable difference...nice and quiet and relaxed, no crowds and the noise factor and 24/7 partying was over. We definitely preferred the "second"/quiet week! Now we return to Bonaire in May/June or so when it is much, much quieter than around Regatta time.'

Don't get me wrong, Regatta week is a lot of fun for everyone who wants to participate. We enjoyed watching the races while we were in the water down at Windsock/Donkey beaches....neat to be "in" the water at eye level with the sailboats competing with each other. It is just that my husband and I have such hectic daily lives here in NJ that we love to get away from reality and Bonaire allows us to do that in their "off season" right before the summer season kicks off.

Good luck on your trip! YOu will love it either way. Carole

apparently the weather can be a bit stiffling at that time of year but apparently the lack of wind or shift that is partially responsible for the heat also can open up the diving off the east coast...guess i don't know...

but i wouldn't think diving would be any different...

harder to find a rental car? maybe a little greater chance of some petty theft?

if i had to go (in october) i certainly would :-)
