Hi Annie:
We will be arriving in Bonaire on the 25th of April. Our condo is pretty well stocked, but you mentioned a tv and do you have a coffee maker. The tv we have doesnt have a remote and is a pain it the butt.
By the way, where are you going?
Joan

Hi there. We'll be bringing a moped to Bonaire in August. It seems that the import tax on scooters is "27 + 18"% and 6% sales tax. Can anyone tell me...does that mean 27% of the appraised value (according to customs estimation) or 27% of the price paid (with receipt in hand). On the 18%, is that 18% of the import tax or an additional 18% of the price paid or appraised value of the moped? Also on sales tax - is that added on to the duty or is the information given for purchase on Bonaire??? (I got the information about tariffs at www.sunbelt.an/bon_tariffs.htm in case anyone is interested :-)
Thanks for a bit of knowledge to anyone willing to share :-)
Annette

27% , 18%, 5% each of the commercial invoice and shipping cost

Which boils down to 50%

The 6% tax changed last year a couple times until it finally became 5%.

Annette-
Is this a used moped? Are you shipping thru Amcar and Rocargo? If it's used, with some mileage on it, then definitely lowball the value. If it's new, you're screwed! You might want to rethink it and just buy one on Bonaire. You'll just end up paying at least 50% of the value all over again with the shipping, taxes and duty. I do know Amcar charges by the cubic meter or weight... whichever is MORE. Good luck.
Kate

Hi There.
Thanks for your help :-) This is a used moped with some mileage...its been in storage for two years. As I understand it comes to 50% of the total of shipping and price paid (with invoice in hand). Not too bad if the price paid is reasonable. I've not lived in Bonaire for 3 years and then there was no place to buy a moped except privately. Is this still the case?
Also, Kate - thanks for your e-mail - look for my reply...we are definately still looking :-)
:-) :-)

Hi Sunny Bonaire :-)
Can anyone tell me - is it still the case that a resident is allowed to bring in one vehicle - one time - duty free?
Your help is appreciated :-)

When you first get your resident's permit, you are allowed to bring in one "container" of personal and household USED belongings plus one car duty free. The car must be owned by you for at least 6 months prior. Anyone considering bringing in a vehicle should also think about service and parts on island. For example, we have no Subaru dealer. We do have a NAPA parts store for the handy types that can do the fixing themselves. I think we have Toyota, Mistubishi, Nissan, and maybe Ford for dealers.

(a container is about 40x9x8 feet and looks like the back of a semi truck)
