Did you know that in November Bas Tol led a group of Belgian divers on a two-hour-and-fourteen-minute dive across Lac Bay from Lac Cai to Sorobon OUTSIDE the reef? Amazing.

After I read about it in The Bonaire Reporter, I went out to Lac Cai to take a look at the site and couldn't believe the distance and the roughness of the ocean they had to cross.

I had the good fortune to spend a day diving with Bas at a couple of the northern dive sites. His diving skills are phenomenal. I learned more from him about bouyancy control and relaxed diving in less than a day than I had learned in three PADI certification courses before. Quite the guy!

Go and look him up at PhotoTours Divers (Carribbean Court) where he now works. Maybe you, too, will be lucky enough to share a dive with him.

Karl,
You are right about Bas. He is great to dive with. We did a 90 min night dive with him at Karpata during the coral spawn. We hope to dive with him again when we go back to Bonaire in Jan 2003.

I also read that Bas buddy breathed with one of the other guys so the other guy could make it. 2 hours & 14 minutes with air to spare! Very impressive.

I was very impressed to hear that Bas crossed the bay. He told me ages ago he wanted to do it, but I never thought he really should.
Is there anybody who can scan the article from the Reporter??? Bas tried to do it, but it came over so bad, that I can hardly read it. Or can you read the Reporter on the cp like I can read the Amigoe???? Hanneke

Sorry, Hanneke. I just threw my copy out this morning before getting on the computer. I never thought of scanning it in for others to read. I just purchased a scanner and the idea is still new to me. Chucks.

Hanneke, good news.

I went and fished the copy out of the garbage (it does not smell, only I do) and scanned it. As I am still experimenting and learning to use my scanner, I will send it to you as an attachment to a private email so that Jake doesn't get mad at me if this comes over as a huge file as my pictures did.

Let me know if you have problems opening it so that I can send it in another format again.

Hi Peter, you must be one of the divers who went with Bas on the epic dive. Congratulations.

I sent you a copy by personal email.

Hi Karl,

Nope, I wasn't one of them. We discussed the dive on BT with Bas and Walt, but we haven't returned to Bonaire to actually do it. We will certainly have a go at it when we return in April/May. Thanks for the article.
Apparently it was the first time anybody did it (-: and they were all from Belgium).

I guess Bas needs to be looking for new challenges new. Perhaps he can try to circle around Klein.

Thanks for the article,

Peter
