To make a long story short, I paid for 2 tickets on 2 different airlines (Insel and DAE) and still didn't make my connection in Curacao (I had foolishly thought 5 hours would be enough).

I was really tired and left my wallet on the lower shelf in from of the Hertz counter in Curacao. An hour later they called me and said someone (one of the guys that clean at the airport) had turned in my wallet. All my cash (several hundred American and Canadian dollars, Guilders and a few million Colombian Pesos) and credit cards were still in it. It was so stuffed with cash that you could not even fold it closed.

Additionally, the lady at Hertz knew where to call me because she took the time to find me a hotel room. She had to call 4 different hotels before she found me one.

Somewhere on a recent thread was a caution to not make yourself a victim.
Kudos to your good luck and to the very honest person who returned your property.
Have that same experience over and over and let us know the results.

I might owe it all to Grunt. I recently posted that I would give him my ipod when he goes into a retirement home. That sarcastic comment must have been misinterpreted by the karma gods.

It was really stupid on my part and I would have had no one to blame but myself. I was really impressed and it also reassured me that the world is not full of thieves or selfish people.

Fid.. missing your comments and direct approach.. can't wait to see you at the New Year! Yes, on the whole folks here in the Antilles are honest and have a lot of self respect. Just that we seldom hear the good..just the negative. So many things have happened to remind me of how good the people here are during the 20 plus years. I could write a book. The first truck I bought here arrived 6 weeks before I had the money from a transaction transferred and the dealer told me to take the car and pay when the money arrive!

Antillean people are not so decadence as many others think. How ever they say "gani mi pa mi gani bo" or something like that. "like me to love you".

The other day at Plantation we were looking at some furniture to buy. We weren't quite sure. Not a problem, they said just take it home & see if you like it. If so come back & pay us, if not, just bring it back no problem. Well it turns out it didn't quite"click" in our apartment. No problem at all in returning it.
