Does Bonaire have anything like "Car Boot Fairs?"

In the UK wherever there is a large space they hold these. People turn up with whatever they can put in their car and have a stall and sell unwanted items (usually cheap). These are very popular usually from Easter to Autumn in the hope of not being rained off. People pay a fee to set a stall up and some places charge admission to the public to look. If you had "Boot Fairs" especially when a cruise ship came in stallholders would do very well!
These are very popular with both residents and tourists alike in the UK. There isnt anything i want that I cant find at one of these, from designer clothing, books, kids clothes and toys. My BCD even came from one for £20 new. (had it checked out)There can be some rubbish but generally theres loads of great stuff to be had. They usually start around 6.30- 7am for buyers and finish by lunchtime. Cant recommend them enough.

Rose.

Please don't inflict car boot sales on the good people of Bonaire. What was it that Mayor Quimby from the Simpsons said about them? 'The only thing that you can't buy is dignity'! LOL

There have been a few similar sales on the island for raising funds for charity, the Animal Shelter etc. Most people on Bonaire have porch sales when they want to get rid of some unwanted goods or as we did, when they are leaving the island.

Before we left the UK for Bonaire, we did a boot sale. I have never been so appalled by the actions of adults. Before we had even stopped the car, they were tugging at the doors like looters.

Never again Rose. Never again.............

Antony,

Sorry not a Simpson fan so wasted on me lol!!

Easy way to stop the over keen people. I tell them everything on the stall is a tenner!!!! They soon back off then! I can tell a trader a mile off and over inflate anything I sell. I am always happy for Jo Public to have a bargain. Thats what after all car Boots are about. Its also good to sell off unwanted items for a little profit when they still have lots of good use left for someone else to enjoy. Everyones a winner!

Individuals have "Porch Sales". like American Yard Sales, at their residence. I tried that when I was on my boat, in the marina on a dock, and here came the Customs Man scowling furiously. "You cannot do this"

Stutter stutter I said.

We worked out that I just didn't know, and that I was not an importer trying to sneak past The Man and duty- taxes, and I closed up shop before anyone showed up.

I think what may (not) have helped was that I was trying to get rid of some boat parts, and my over enthusiastic friend put a flyer about the sale on the chandlry's door. Chandlry = boat parts store.

So, yes there are second hand stuff sales, but not out of cars.

Whew
