Cory..I'd recommend that you drop by the day before. One less thing to worry about come departure day!

We've never had a problem paying at departure. The check in line is much slower than the d-tax line. One gets and stays in line for check in, the other goes to get the tax receipts. The booth is right beside the line, to your right. The clerk at the check in takes them, so don't put them away somewhere, just with your ticket. If you booked with an agent, you may want to check and see if it's already there, as we've had this happen occasionally. Can't remember if this ever happened on Bonaire though.

I personally wouldn't waste my time going to the airport the day before to pay the departure tax. I personally would rather be snorkeling, visiting the animals at the shelter or anything but going to the airport when you don't need to. You'll be at the airport on Saturday and can take care of your traveling business. One person stands in the "huge line for check in, the other can stroll over and pay for departure tax. The only time it was a problem was a few years ago when they made you present your boarding pass before allowing you to pay for departure tax. It only happened once on a day when Continental had two flights leaving the same morning. What a mess.

In past few years it seems to be simple enough to do while you are waiting anyways even when there are several flights leaving.

Those of us solo travelers find paying the tax the day before departure MUCH more convenient. I have no problem taking a spare half-hour of an off-gassing lunch break to swing over to the airport.

One less line to deal with on the dreaded departure day.

Have they gone back to the old policy where you do not need your boarding pass to pay the departure tax? If so, yeah! Last January, you still had to have your boarding pass to get pay your departure tax, makes for a big pita.

In the old days, before the above policy was in place and parking was easy, I used to pay mine during the week during a surface interval. Still will do the same thing if you don't need the stinkin' boarding pass now!

Cindi, welcome to BT, and I'm just a tad jealous you live on Bonaire!

I agree CR. I was on a solo trip last month. Paid mine the day before departure after diving was completed - no boarding pass required Tink.

Much easier to do it the before. Takes only minutes.

I also went pass the airline desk to confirm flights, etc.

AND, made sure I enough US cash and converted some of the money I had.

did it in less then 15 minutes. this way I wasn't lugging stuff around and all I had to do was check in and walk into boarding area-get a cup of tea and relax.

Based on last two times I'd say much to do about nothing. it wasn't an issue paying the departure tax after I checked in either on my Continental flight(august) or American flight (march).
I always did it when I arrived previously. Don't see any need to go out of my way.

Only reason is if you want to use a CC as the machine "could" be down and then a PITA if no cash. So, if using a CC for payment of DT, I would go day before "just in case"

Good news that they've either chucked the "new rule" and gone back to letting you buy the dang departure tax when you want.

Debbie B never had that issue. agree Tink its nice they have gone back to old way never really understood it but there's lots of things that I don't understand. might try and pay departure tax when i arrive like I use to do just to be done with it.
Is the construction done now at the Lisa gas intersection? That would certainly would be a reason for NOT going to airport early atleast for me staying North.

Bob, the round a bout is now finished by the old Lisa gas station, it is now called Bonaco gas station. I had the CC machine down twice in all the years I have been going, usually am paying for three at one time and came up short cash wise, so glad Hubby had some cash in his pocket. Now, I go prepared either way.

Debbie B never ran into that (9 years)therefore never crossed my mind.it would be bummer if it did though. I think I would have the cash but it is something to ponder and as you say plan for. Glad the way to the airport is now back.
