For his excellent & well written article entitled "Death By A Thousand Cuts" in this issue of The Reporter. All advised to pick up a copy & read it. He certainly puts the gradual degradation of the reefs in a proper context. In essence, the article illustrates and outlines the many multi-faceted reasons for it.

I fully agree with you Vince. I also have learned something from it; I always thought they where cute these Damsels....
This article also makes me very sad. Not only the content, but, most importantly, it is out of this world that even the manager of the Bonaire National Marine Park has to use a medium like the Bonaire Reporter to get the word out. It's proven again to me our government doesn't even listen to him..... They don't care a shitty little bit. Every week the Freewinds is back and every week you see the dump-trucks driving up and down again .......
The big joke is that coming Thursday (the 22nd)there is a open walk-in night set up in the sportscomplex on the Kaya Amsterdam about (sorry for the Dutch) "Inspraak Evaluatie Natuurbeleid". Here the general public and all others interested are invited to listen to, and can comment on, the plans concerning nature's future of this government. Show-time!!.

Vince, thanks for the heads up. Very good article.

Menno, I found it odd as well that Ramon has to take to the BR to state the facts. It must be incredibly frustrating for him.

Our first trip to Bonaire was in 2001. The clarity, visibility, and health of the reef has deteriorated dramatically in eight years...very very very sad....

I wrote the publisher:
Dear publisher.

I would like to thank you and the writer, Ramon the Leon, for publishing the most lucid article I’ve ever read about the threatened reefs of Bonaire.
I hope all stakeholders will take good notice.

I picked up a copy of The Reporter this afternoon. I thought it was a well written and informative article. I also agree with Tink.
Since my first visit in 2003, I have noticed a decline in the conditions on the reef.

Ramon, very well done!
Next year will be our tenth trip.
We have seen the gradual decline of reef quality over the years.
The decline seems to be greatly increasing over the last three years.
More cruise ships, more construction, more s**t into the once beautiful Caribbean Sea.
$$$ seem to rule, as always.
What can/will be done to save the Bonairian reefs?
And again, are the "no fishing" zones just a bit of local humor?
