Wife and I were walking back to the apartment and witnessed the explosion on Tuesday evening. At first I thought that it was a signal flare. I've heard lots of rumors but won't repeat.

Sounds like they were carrying jerry cans in the cabin for mid-air . Not too bright as one can see from the results.

Would not surprise me that the drugs on the plane originated just like the ones on the boat from Venezuela..... they were used over there to fligh into Honduras a lot with their drugs and that at the moment is not possible .....

Our group saw it and I thought it was a meteor or something similar because it broke up then fragmented and kept falling and falling apart. Maybe seven seconds of entertainment but then finding out it was a plane and people died made it less attractive. It's funny how fast news travels. Everyone was talking about it the next morning.

There is a video of the crash scene on you tube. There is one part that is a little graphic (warning) Type: avion ku a kai na bonaire and it should bring it up. It looks like footage from a TV broadcast.

What is more incredible is to know that the coastguard has 2 radars on Bonaire to monitor all traffic on water and in the air.
Do you really believe they would tell us all on what is going on?
Do you really believe authorities don’t know who’s plane it is and where it was heading.
Didn’t they recently confiscated a plane on Bonaire and raided a bunch of officials?

i think it would be possible for a good pilot to fly below the radar and not be detected. i also know there have to be places on bonaire where a small, low-flying aircraft could land, load or unload the drugs, and take off without the coast guard or airport knowing about it.

Perhaps interesting for some of you and I guess an explaination where the plane came from and why it had not contact to the Bonaire airport tower ...

TKS, Brigitte,

Scary. I have not seen much, if any, coverage here in the States about drug trafficking or combating it. Not sure how much we are helping these days.

The last paragraphs about Chavez' designs on Trinidad and Tobago are scary also. I am not sure the present US government would oppose such a takeover as we did Castro's attempt to occupy Grenada. It is a hard time for people who would be free.

i was told recently (maybe last winter) that there is a US coast guard cutter stationed on curacao whose purpose is to prevent drug trafficking. i know it had pulled into bonaire a few times. not sure if it's still stationed there.

i still feel free. doesn't seem like a hard time to me.

Well in my opinion (based upon my observance of the day to day geo-political scene),we are indeed on the threshold of losing our freedoms bit by bit by bit. And it's an ongoing battle. Sorta like the "Death by a thousand cuts" article on the reef. NOT trying to open up a debate on this but I do understand what Glen means and sympathize with his point of view. I thought the same thing when I read the link in Brigitte's posting.
