Hello everybody!!! We are coming to Bonaire in september to go diving, but we also like to kite...can anybody tell us if it is possible to do some kiting on the island. What are the conditions and what kind of kiting, powerkiting, buggy, kite-surfing or just fun-kiting? We would love to know, what we can bring with us...greetings frans en steph

There are a few locals that kite surf in part of Lac bay. It is discouraged in the part where the windsurfers are. I don't know about land kiting.

Due to the lack of clear open spaces I would recommend short line, very controllable kites and some extra spars as a crash is a true bummer. The terrain is not good for buggies. Have seen a few kite surfers out at Lac. Most of my kites have yet to get out of their bags..... Wind is great but the obstacles are many.

There are open spaces south of sorobon at the back of baby beach. I used to kite there too before I crashed and killed it ;-) Washikemba has some huge open spaces. Between Boca Washikemba and Lagoen you could buggy on red dirt. And north of washikemba you can buggy a stretch of about 3km. long with the right wheels (8" to 10" fatty tires would work there I guess) Nice 'clean' wind for sure:-) Would not wanna wipe out there though so Susan might be right there. But check out these places anyway... maybe for your next trip.

I am a fellow kite flyer who has moved to Bonaire. Quads are a good idea. Let me know how it goes...

Stephanie,
My fiance and I found a fun thing to do. Fill a big insulated mug with beverage of choice, take kite in hand, walk out quite a ways in the warm knee-deep-shallow beautiful Lac Bay (avoiding the windsurfers if possible) and plop down and fly our kite! Great wind and lovely place!!!

Hi
I know absolutely nothing about kite boarding.but I do know there was a lot of resistance to it in Lac Bay. However last May we saw a guy kiting on the west coast near (if you could it that) Salt Pier since he went back and forth for a mile or more. The water was flat and he was having a great time.

Good idea Jamie..We sometimes do this at a beach here in Holland where there are big shallows...always fun if the wind is in the right direction, so you get back too. We have pretty big kites and they will drag you through the water...yippeeee!!!
