Has anyone been to Pink Beach recently? I've read only a few comments about it being covered with debris from Lenny. Is it back to normal yet?

The salt company has said they were going to take care of it. Have not been there in the last two weeks but will check it out

i was in bonaire from christmas through jan. 7 and went to what was pink beach several times. unfortunately, pink beach no longer exists. there is hardly a cup of sand left. Pink beach is now iron rock and rubble beach. we have heard the rummors that the salt comppany was working to restore pink beach. if this is so, and i hope it is, we saw absolutely no evidence of it. hopefully nature will see fit to bring it back soon, but the damage is extensive and a quick fix is unlikely.

Pink Beach normally has a varying amount of sand over the course of the year. One set of waves will take it away and another dumps it back again. I've seen iron shore exposed at times and other times only sand. Pink beach did not have the large amount of coral rubble before the waves but the large banks between the road and the beach were made up of coral rubble. Some of these banks were cut at by the waves and small sections collapsed. I suspect the Salt Company will be tending to the palm trees and the bankings for safety. Due to the Bonaire Marine Park laws, dedging the sand back out of the water is not an option. We'll just have to wait for Mother nature to restore the sand.

What about the soft corals in the shallows? Are they completely gone? Are fish still around? What about our barracuda?

If the Salt Company does not assist, mother nature will correct it all in time. It has done so many many times in the past and will so again.

Thanks for the reassurence Bruce. I was beginning to wonder about things, but looked to it as a challange to come back and see for ourselves and hope for the best.
