My friend got an ear infection while diving in the Philippines and we bought Cipro at a pharmacy, no prescription or doctor visit. It cured the infection enough so that she only missed a day of diving.

It is available here, but you'll need a local doctor's prescription. If you can bring some with you, it'd save you time-you may not be able to get a same day dr's appt, or an infection may start over a weekend. I always travel with my own supply.

We always clean our ears after every dive, just rinse with fresh water. We also buy Alucete from the Botica in the High street or from Michael at ChatnBrowse, I think it is based on weak vinegar and olive oil.

We use Doc's Pro Plugs, and when done with a dive, take them out, and your ears feel as if you were never underwater... Ron

My doc recommends after every dive a mixture of 50/50 vinegar/isopropyl alcohol. mix a little squeeze bottle and go - and btw doc also states do not Q-TIP yr ears during your trips the natural wax prevents ear infections. However I found using a hood no matter what the water temp is works great with the combination of the above. For meds I always get my doc to write a script that I fill before I leave - for the just in case I need it.
