I have just been charged Fl.8.40 for taking a pickup of domestic rubbish to the landfill. Apparently that's the going rate as of today.
How many people are going to save the money by dumping in the wilderness? I quess quite a few. In my two trips there - (I had to come home to get money) I saw two trucks going up dirt roads loaded with rubbish. Maybe they weren't dumping, maybe were just visiting someone!

John.

I guess that you are right. Many will choose to dump anywhere. Bonaire is so sparsely inhabited that it will be easy to do.

It is an ill conceived piece of legislation that will of course cause further pollution and cost the Government more.

An increase in land tax or the likes would have ensured that everyone pays.

Really, this doesn't seem to be a smart idea to me.
One would think any operating costs would be buried in the local property taxes. Asking the folks to pay out of their pocket to get them to do a good thing by legally taking their waste in for proper disposal appears to be counter productive to say the least. This will be a textbook example of the law of unintended consequences.

Someone told me this afternoon that the charge doesn't seem to apply to everyone. They saw a Toyota Hilux go through without paying. Maybe they bought a season ticket
