I can't remember the name of the new development across from the airport, but when I left in May, they were just finishing some wonderful murals on its wall. Does anybody know who the folks were who were doing the painting? Some looked like students, maybe, others adults.

Whoever they are, they're very talented. I'm going to matte the pics I took of those paintings and frame them.

I especially liked the one of the plump ladies sun bathing. Can't really decide..they're so nice...

On one of my jaunts around the island I saw those too, CB, but didn't have a chance to get photos. The people seemed to be having a good time, and were doing a great job!

I believe the development you're referring to is Waterlands Village. I think the various artists did in fact sign their work.

Did Henk Roozendaal do any of the murals? I love his work and have his first Portraits of Bonaire book.
Eagerly waiting for pics!

Cynde is nice enough to say she'll help me post the pics I have, and as soon as I get back from a little concert I'm dashing off to, I'll send them to her again. Cynde, I guess I'll have to send them in separate attachments, since the file wouldn't open.

Maybe next time we're together you could show me how to do it myself...I live with Mr. Computer, but he's no help...

Mare, I never knew who painted those murals, but have always loved them. Wow, his web site is spectacular!

The Bonaire Reporter sometime back had pics of them, but can't remember the issue they were in, very nice and colorful! Can't look for them right now, as I am on pool duty for my son and friend, you know how young teen-age boys can be in a pool!

They were painted by local SGB (high school) students as far as I know. Very nice creative efforts. Each is distinctive, colorful, and well executed.

It is indeed on the walls of Waterlands Village.
All of these paintings, except for two, have been made by SGB students.
They organized a contest at the school and the ones (in smaller form, on paper) that were picked out as the best ones had the honor to paint it on the walls.
Just 2 of them (these are the only 'non-realistic' paintings) have been made by artists (I believe they came over from Curacao).

Thanks for the info and pics, guys. Funny, the ones the high school kids did are by far my favorites. The pictures don't really do the colors justice....I hope they keep them up, cause they're really nice and bright!

My dear, if I weren't so lame, I'd post them myself. Thanks for taking time. You're busy PACKING, I know...

I do think they show them a little better.

I was just taken with these things, maybe because I got to watch them go up over a week or so. And it was nice to see the kids working on them.

Copy of an article in the May 16-30 issue of
The Bonaire Reporter bonairereporter.com
"Bonaire’s top art students from the high school have
changed the look of Bonaire for arriving air travelers. The featureless wall surrounding the Waterlands Village complex
opposite the airport has been transformed into a permanent art
exhibition. Following an art competition
with 70 entries, 11 finalists were chosen by a three-member jury
to reproduce their artistry on the wall. SGB art teacher Gemma
van der Linden organized the young artists. From the 11 final-
ists a winning team will be se- lected and will be awarded a
Toshiba laptop computer and an I-Pod. Popular Bonairean artist
Norwin (Nochi) Coffie painted the Waterlands Village logo."
