Yes we are. We'll be there Feb 8. Do you want me to get some candy hearts with those sayings on them? If so, how many.

Hi Michael, I am arriving on my first trip to Bonaire on Feb 9th around 3PM with a group from Raleigh, NC. I've been reading this site for weeks and it has been very helpful in planning and also in keeping me overly excited about the trip. I'd be happy to bring the candy you need, if you'll let me know quantity and type. I think chocolate might not travel that well if packed, and if I carry it on Sandra will eat it all before we get out of US airspace. However, I will bring whatever you'd like. We're staying at Buddy's so you can get pick it up whenever is convenient.

Just happy to help in our small way. Our BT friends are very special. It's not like our other vacations where you meet people but will probably never see them again in our life times. Until we came to Bonaire. Everyone is very wonderful, helpful, accomadating. We consider some our dear friends. Especially, Pat and Mary Murphy who we met on Bonaire last year and had them to our home this past summer. Can't wait to see them again. Great Bonaire People! What can I say.

Forgot to mention how helpful Michael at Chat - N= Browse is. We'll carry anything down for him. He probably doesn't even remember us. We remember him and how helpful is was.

Okay..There are 24 kids in Emily's class and it would be great if we had an assortment so her mom could put up some baggies. I remember from my youth (oh so long ago) that we used to get these sickeningly sweet little hearts with drippy sayings..I am falling for you, be my valentine, etc. That sort of thing would be just great. Anyone staying at Buddys, I am sure that you will be passing by for an ice cream at lovers, etc. if you could stop in at Chat n Browse, it would be nice to meet you. Alas, the Candy Barrel is long gone from Bonaire. Maybe, I should not lament its passing..it was addictive...

Hi everyone,

This is Emily. I just want to say THANK YOU to you all!! My mom told me she talked to Mike about getting some candy and little Valentines for my class. I am sure glad she did.

Whatever you bring I will share with my friends...sounds like there will be enough to share with the other class as well. I think we have plenty now, so thank you!

Valentine's Day in school will be extra special now!

Emily

This is funny. It all stated because I asked Mike about getting some boxes of those little conversation hearts for Emily's class on Valentine's day (a tradition that I always did when I was a kid) to go with little cards she wanted to make for her friends. Thank you, Mike!

Next time I think I will ask for $50 bills :-)

This is just another great example of how eager the users of this website are to help out the island...in any way.

Thanks again!
Rona

Rona,
We can probably arrange the $50 bill thing too LOL!
BT is chocked full of wonderful, caring & giving people. A lot of us are giving, to Bonaire, of both our time and money....from afar. It's just a good thing to do! SO glad this turned into something more than what you asked for; I'm not surprised.

yes marge i remember. we have a big crowd organized. i think even bob from the car dealer is coming down for it. when you weren't at work the other day i talked to him instead. what a nice guy he is. the two of us exchanged lots of marge stories.

i have candy here too....i think about 32 little packs. i'll get them to michael on thursday or friday (so i don't eat them first).

you're right marge, only on bonaire can you meet people that you actually see after the vacation. in some circles that's known as stalking but we just call it bonaire talk mini meets...it has a nicer ring to it.

I think the dental care question is a good one to ask at this point after looking at that LIST of candy!! Maybe we should move away from the candy and onto non-edibles... stickers for example. Of course this is MOM speaking and not Emily :-)

Thanks again to everyone!

rona, marge and ernie get in on the continental on the 9th. she said she'll sleep for a few hours (read that "see you at dinner"). we'll see emily sometime on the 9th.

also, mary is ready to start up her "rent an oma" program with emily again. or were we calling it "oma te heur"? either way, she's ready to go.

Sounds like a plan. Tell Mary that Emily can use a grandma for sure, and as a bonus mommy & daddy could use a date!

The candy has arrived and Emily and Mom are busy making 200 plus bags for Emily's entire school, some for the Hoppner kids, a few for the kresch. If I promise not to eat it before dinner, Rona said she might even let me have one!

Good news, Michael! I know it will bring smiles to everyone's faces and warmth to their hearts. It was so very nice of all of you who participated in this project to do so. Kudos. Carole

Hi everyone,
We finished the bagging of the candy last night. We made 178 bags that will be distributed today and tomorrow. I will certainly have some great photos to upload soon!

A BIG THANK YOU to Bonaire Talkers once again.

I must admit I was tempted but resisted and was happy when Rona removed all the candy. I think a group hug should go to all those who packed candy instead of clothes especially to Peggie Sue who had to wear the same outfit everyday..just kidding. Again, I was just happy that we could bring a few smiles to some little faces. Now be prepared for the sugar rush.

Funny, Michael!! Actually, I have hand washed things a few times already...
:-)
Did Emily & Rona get the bags all done and handed out?
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!

The candy was a hit. I received a few dozen little smooches because of it. The kids were thrilled and the teachers sent it all home in their backpacks so I am sure the parents are very happy with us :-)

I do have pictures and I will upload them asap. Mary & Pat and Bernie & Marge stopped by today to wish us a Happy V Day and Emily gave them a big THANK YOU hug (while she munched her entire candy bracelet). I will also upload the photo I took of them all together.

Thanks to all who helped out and to Mike for getting the entire thing started.

Hi BT,
Here are a few photos. I am hoping to have the class photo posted on the school website and then I will supply the link.

Many of the kids are still saying thank you. So thanks again to everyone who had something to do with this extra sweet Valentine's Day!

The pics turned out cute. The group photo should be available soon. The classic photo is the "surprised" look when they learned some of the candy was going to their class the next day!

Boat Chick - Hey no problem...YGM.

Mike, maybe next year we should donate the brushes and put them in with the candy treats :-) Thanks again for getting the ball rolling.
