Was rather pleased to read the below from STINAPA wherein an agreement has finally been implemented with respect to this important issue affecting the diving on island. Looks like 2 zones have been set aside with implementation early 2008. Northern zone, from Petries Pillar/ Small Wall to Harbor Village Marina (northern entrance) Southern zone at Chacha cha beach to Northern entrance to Plaza.
Excellent idea long overdo! :-)

Excellent news. I'm not sure it will be sufficient to bring back the large fish but it is a start.

What the STINAPA press release says is no bottom fishing in front of the resorts. Too little, too late. If Bonaire wants to reverse the declining quality of the reef they will have to be a bit more drastic and come up with real measures.

I assume the 200 foot limit is depth (and not just 200 feet from the coast). Has anyone seen a map that shows where the 200 foot limit is along the leeward coast? I'd like to see it.

interesting; 1) areas that are already not highly fished - so not much change apparently and 2) no bottom fishing, but two others types of fishing OK - are the big fish only at the bottom usually?

I guess I don't fully understand. But I admittedly do not have ANY knowledge about this subject. It does sound like it is at least a start. All improvements need a beginning.

Thanks for the heads up Vince, and nice to see the local fisherman and STINPA working together for everyone's benefit.
