Does anyone have a really good computer /network person on the island - that actually shows up?
A # or contact info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Brian

What's the problem?

We have a pier to pier setup. Just upgraded two of the three computers to XP. The other one (a big DELL) has VISTA.
A) Lost sound on one (I don't think it's the card)
B) None of the three will Fax / Scan with the 3390 HP
C)The dell doesn't print to the 4250 HO (think it's a compatability problem)
I chocked my way through the upgrade
but I obviously missed some pieces.
The last guy we had out wants to come after work, chug beer and pizza 'til late and couldn't get a handle on the problems.
Two out of the other three couldn't bother even calling when they were supposed to show.
I should have gotten an electrics ticket instead of a mechanical (well, of course, the boys up in silicone valley hadn't invented the PC yet - for that matter, they hadn't developed silicone valley yet either)
Anyway I could sure use some help - a contact - a rope -
Thanks
Brian

I am always worried about upgrades rather than a clean install but things to check on XP are

1. The network Scan/Fax is a shared device so File & Printer SHaring will need to be enabled.

2. XPs default is Simple File SHaring - I would change that to proper sharing

3. To share, the network card must have Microsoft Networks and File and Pritner Sharing ticked

4. And finally there must be an XP driver installed for the devices and if they are newer that XP that will involve a Google for the latest drivers...

Hope this helps

Trevor

Thank you ...What is "Proper sharing"?

What I would like to do is find a computer wiz - lock him/her in the office - slide pizza and gilders under the door until the problems go away

There is a tick box in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View (tab) and then right at the very bottom "Use Simple File Sharing (recommended)"

I have never had much luck with that ticked and so unticking it stops that silliness and I call the subsequent configuration "Proper File Sharing" for want of a better term.....

peer to peer networking is much easier than pier to pier bar hopping LOL

At least in Bonaire there is only one pier with a bar....

Are you using any hubs switches or routers?

Well, hopefully we'll get it sorted out before April, if not, I could be suffering from severe over stress.
Thank you though...
It's just another one of those little Caribbean challenges
