Does Cultimara, Bonaire Superstore, OMNI or any major store accept credit cards like VISA?

yes, they are excepted--by all supermarkets, some more reluctantly than others.

You've just missed a big discussion, maybe 2 months ago, so check the archives for the info.

Almost every merchant accepts credit cards here and have for over the 20 plus years I have been here. Believe it or not, Bonaire is and has been in the main stream for quite a long time...

KJ, From experience I have 2 suggestions. First call VISA before you leave and tell them you will be in Bonaire so they will not inadvertantly block your card. Second, American Express is not accepted everywhere so we rely on VISA when in Bonaire.

KJ:
George is correct on calling your cc companies, as that situation exactly happened to me. Fortunately I had another cc that didn't get blocked. I now call all of mine and let them know.

Actually I just read the archived thread re: credit cards and now have a question that maybe more experienced bonaire people can answer: I normally go to the ATM at the hotel and take out NaFLs. There hasn't been any changes recently on the island that is going to mess that up, is there? MichaeI, do you have an ATM machine at your business?
I use ccs mostly at restaurants and when making larger purchases of equipment or clothes and such. Thanks

There is an ATM adjacent on the property less than 25 meters away! Also, if you do have to call your credit card company, I have a US phone that folks can use for toll free calls.

I can attest to Michael's phone (and overall) hospitality. My AMEX went defunct, even though I told them I was traveling. They cut it off on the hotel charge because it was larger than my normal spending pattern for a single purchase. Go figure! The hotel I was at couldn't dial (or so they claimed) international calls. I ran over to Chat-n-Browse in a panic and Michael took care of me. That was a very stressful way to end the trip. So...when you call your credit card companies about traveling, warn the company that you will be charging your hotel to that there is going to be a large charge appearing. Or, do what we will be doing from now on - pay for the hotel package in advance instead of a deposit and remainder due at checkout.

Thanks Michael
Yeah Tribs, I had the same problem with AMEX and one of my Visas. The AMEX was handled so badly that I got mad. Don't have the AMEX any more, too bad because they made tons of money off of me. Also think they charge vendors more for use.

What I try to do is ATM for cash and I have never had a problem with the M & C ATMs, and pay for stuff that way to avoid the above problems. I will work harder to remember the cash tip procedure, Thanks.
