Hi,
Just wanted to know which stores, if any, carry

canned ravioli or canned speggetti (spelling?)

soy burgers or veggie burgers

chocolate chips cookies (like the ones from America).?

Also, are all the milk brands homogenized and pastuerized?

thanks,
kj

KJ, don't know about the canned stuff but you could buy pasta and jar sauce and make it. Yummy cookies, probably not like American ones but delicious. Last Bite Bakery has fresh baked cookies/cakes and pies that are awesome. They sell fresh milk in the dairy case that is homogonized and pasteurized (from US dairies) and also boxed milk on the shelf. You may be able to get raw goats milk from a local resident. Hope this info helps. You can get vegetarian meals in Garden cafe and others.

KJ, Tropical Flamingo and Cultimara sometimes have veggie burgers and the canned ravioli/spaghetti; Warehouse Bonaire often has Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies. Pasteurized/homogonized milk shows up in the dairy cases on Fridays, get it before it disappears!

KJ
I recommend the box milk. The taste doesn't take much getting use to and it is (as I recall) about 1/4 the price. On top of that the fresh milk which is from the states is usually on the edge of going bad.

You can usually get Chips Ahoy and Oreo's at Tropical Flamingo or at Sand Dollar Grocery. I don't do canned stuff, so can't answer that one. Fresh milk arrives on Thursdays, but not the shelves till late Friday or Saturday, depending. Cultimara has the milk you ask about. I used the boxed milk as Mickey suggested. My son likes the real milk on his cereal, so I usually will pick up a small carton and hope for the best. Soy or veggie burgers, try More For Less Grocery. Food shopping on Bonaire is not a one stop shopping experience. :-)

The best recommendation is to bring stuff (shelf stable) that you absolutely want to have on vacation and treat grocery shopping on Bonaire like a treasure hunt. After 5 years we have narrowed down the stuff we bring to: Crystal Lite, rice pasta, nuts, craisins, favorite balsamic salad dressing & the kids' favorite mac & cheese.

I found some amazing already spiced canned beans at Cultimara this year.

Ann, I THINK it closes at 8PM (at least that's what I found by an internet search). Do you have a late arriving flight and need to get supplies?

Hi Ann, Welcome to BT! :-) I just checked the Bonaire Update and it lists it closing at 7:00 pm.
Mon. thru Sat - 7:30 am - 7pm and Sundays - 8am - 2pm. If you have a late arriving flight, sometimes the place you are renting can have some supplies ready for you when you arrive or just stop by Pasa Bon Pizza for a late dinner, they are open till 11:00 pm and then get an early start for groceries in the morning.

DO any of the local grocery stores carry gluten-free products such as rice or corn pasta and gluten-free flour? When we return for a trip in December we are bringing a guest who has celiac sprue. We usually do much of our own cooking and want to make sure that we have things that he can eat.

What about steaks? We were looking at them last year and they looked redder than usual. Any suggestions on where to purchase them?

Susan, Bonaire Warehouse has a great selection of fresh meats, poultry and steaks. Some even are marinated. :-)

Carol - just saw your post. I am gluten-intolerant and have not found any gluten-free pasta, flours or baked goods on Bonaire (which is why rice pasta is on my list of stuff to bring!). I just eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, along with potatoes, meats & cheese while I'm there and am quite happy.

I would watch out for pre-marinated items, as many use soy sauce and other ingredients which have MSG (the problem with soy sauce is that the soy beans are fermented in grain-based alcohol) and will trigger a bad reaction for your guest. (also no beer...I can't decide if I miss that or pizza the most).

Sue

You can get asian pasta at the Tung Fung Store like rice sticks and mung bean (cellophane) noodles. I believe these are gluten free.
